Most of us fall prey to feeling a little low at times and it can often be difficult to get yourself out of that funk. Here are a few tips to help you boost your self-esteem and feel wonderful.

1. Try a workout
Not only do we all tend to feel virtuous after a workout, exercise releases endorphins that make you feel great. Put on your prettiest fitness gear and either get to the gym, go for a run or try something like a Burlesque Dolls workout.

2. Pamper yourself
Treat yourself and head to a salon or spa for some pampering. You might go and get your hair done, or perhaps you’re in need of a manicure. Even something as small as getting a file and paint on your nails can make you feel so much better about yourself.

If your self-esteem is low before a big event or a night out, let a professional make up artist perfect your look for the evening.

3. Dress up
It doesn’t matter if you don’t have anywhere to go. Put on your best clothes, highest heels and take your time on your hair and make up. Generally, when our self-esteem has taken a dip we get lazy when all it really takes is a bit of effort to make us feel good again.

It’s fine to trot around your house in your heels but even if you don’t feel like going out, call some of the people you are closest to and go for a quiet drink or dinner. It’ll take your mind off how you are feeling and you get to spend time with the people you love.

4. See some friends
Don’t just choose any friends but go out with the ones who make you feel best about yourself. It doesn’t matter what you do, whether it’s staying in with them and watching TV or going out on the town. By the end of your time with them you’ll be back to your usual self.

5. Do something that scares you
It might be leaving the house without make up, it might be trying roller derby (check out rollerderbyau.net for details) for the first time, or it might be attending a new fitness class on your own. These are all things that are only really scary because we build them up in our minds. Get out there and do it and you’ll feel amazing once you’ve conquered that fear.

6. Be positive
Write down everything negative you’re feeling to get it out of your system. Then spend some time thinking about and writing down positive things. Many of us spend too much time dwelling on the bad things. For example, it’s easy to get stressed if you hit every red light on the way home from work. But do you ever celebrate those times when you hit every green light on a journey?

Thinking positively can really help you to start being more positive in general and this can do wonders for your self-esteem.

  • I have been thinking about getting game and pushing myself to do something that scares me since watching the biggest loser contestants conquer their fears. But what to do is the question. Hopefully something l survive from.
