A freak classroom accident has left a little boy from Victoria with a traumatic brain injury, the extent of which still unknown.

Xavier Baker was just like any other typical six-year-old. Described as a fun-loving boy who adored Pokemon, footy and gaming with his brother.

But that all came to a horrifying end last month, after he tripped while holding a pencil in the classroom.

“I got a call from school that Xavier had hurt himself,” Xavier’s mum Melissa told 7News.

The pencil pierced the six-year-old’s eyeball, and his brain, causing a bleed and a stroke. A clot then formed and caused another stroke leaving his frontal lobe damaged. Xavier has been in intensive care since the March 14 accident, in a coma.

“He was meant to start playing football and basketball this year and now that’s been taken away.”

While his condition is improving, just what Xavier’s recovery will look like is still not known.

“How long’s a piece of string, we have no idea,” Melissa said. “No one knows how deep the damage goes inside the brain.

“He’s fighting every single day, and we’re just so proud of him still wanting to be here.”

A gofundme has been set up to help ease the financial burden on the family, which includes Melissa’s husband Allan and their three other children, Kimberly, Drew and Aiden.
