Hello!

Last school holidays, we spent a week in the land of the Hemsworths.

Not WITH the Hemsworths – just near where I know they live!

Yes the beautiful Byron Bay and surrounds; where the beautiful people stay, play and eat … beautifully healthy food in beautiful places.

Aspirational? Yes of course.  By the end of the week I’d planned our move North and was picturing just how glowing we would all be after just a few shorts week at home in Byron.

I mean what’s not to aim for? It all looks so good doesn’t it!

Just imagine if coffee with Daddy looked this good everyday …

And how good those googy eggs would taste when they’d been Hemswhipped …

So you can imagine when I see what Chris’ wife Elsa has popped into the kids’ nude lunchboxes …

I immediately think back to 5.30am this morning when I packed 3 sets of lunch for my babes.

I can guarantee I looked nothing like Elsa (unless you want to add hair everywhere, ugg boots, pjs and the dog bugging me for his breakfast) and I was pretty sure the lunches I had packed would get the big frown!

This morning was a long time ago so I quickly sent a text to my eldest and asked him to flip me back a pic. Here’s what came back …

tobys lunch today

Appalled at the pic he sent back, I asked if that’s all I gave him. Thankfully he said he had already eaten the tomato and the pear (phew there was some fruit in there) and there are about 8 big strawberries in that ziplock at the back.

I think today (as is often the case) I bombed out. White bread finger bun – covered in sugar and wrapped in cling film and a white bread roll with vegemite, cheese and lettuce.

Could have been worse I guess … but not a celery stick, nude juice, homemade homous, raw slice or nutless slice to be seen. CERTAINLY NOT HEMSWORTHY!

Good on them of course – such a lovely couple with beautiful children.  Go them! and Go Me too – I’ll keep trying and next week I’ll do better (promise) xo

How did you go with lunches this week?  Between you and I lunches are my weak point – at that time of the day my kids are lucky if there’s bread in the house and the fruit is still fresh.

  • It’s hard sometimes as i run out of ideas

  • Always gave my children fresh and fresher foods in their lunch boxes, but still so pleased mine grew up before the food police arrived in the schools.

  • It’s so hard to manage variety and healthy when. A Kid is in a picky phase!

  • We always plan for a bit of variety and that way no one gets bored with lunches.

  • lol – thanks for keeping it real! – I love your article and can so relate. I wish my kids would eat the stuff that Mrs Hemsworth has put in her kids lunch boxes – then it would look like hers I think!

  • I try to do every day something else in their lunchboxes. On Monday the had sweet potato waffles, on Tuesday they had a gluten free multi seeded bun with homemade sunflower seed spread, on Wednesday they had quinoa wraps, on Thursday they had homebaked glutenfree bananabread and on Friday they had buckwheat carob crackers. They always have carrots, roma cherry tomato, raw mushrooms, apple and grapes for crunch and sip and besides their lunch and I add coconut flakes in a pot and roasted broadbeans/chicknut/sweet corn, sometimes a boiled egg or a pot with natural greek yohurt. Also try to add every day a homebaked gingerbread man, cupcake or something like that preferably baked without sugar.

  • My daughter likes cheese and tomato sandwiches and fruit every day. I’ve asked her if she wants a change, but she says no. She has more variety in her diet with her breakfasts, snacks, and dinner, so I’m not too worried about lunch.

  • It’s so exhausting always coming up with healthy, yet delicious, lunch box lunches. And to also keep up a variety don’t try don’t get sick of same old stuff
