Hello!

My waters broke in bed at 4.30am at exactly 39 weeks of pregnancy. I called the birthing unit who advised me to come in for a checkup. Contractions weren’t regular, so I was told to go home and come back at 5pm if labour doesn’t start naturally before then. At 11am my contractions became more regular. I started logging them and called the hospital when they were consistently about 3 mins apart for an hour. They said I could come in if I felt ready. I arrived at hospital at 12.30. Had my first internal exam at 1pm where I was told I was a tough cookie because I was already 9cm dilated! Ella’s heart rate was high throughout the labour process, so that was monitored and fluids encouraged. They finally managed to cannulate my awfully hard to find veins to run fluids at about 2.45pm and then things ramped up and I had Ella naturally, on my back, with no pain relief at 3.09pm. She was put on the cpap and under the heater in my room due to difficulty breathing from the fast birth. But they managed to get her breathing independently within 20 mins without sending her to NICU. She ended up back on my chest and latched on to my breast right away. My clever little girl. She weighs 3740g and is 53cm tall. We are totally in love with her. The birth of Ella was extremely painful, but the most beautiful and natural thing I’ve ever experienced.
