Easter such a great time for the whole family to get together and have fun and feast like king’s and queens , but I am so offended to all the supermarkets store , yes that’s you Coles and Woolworths and IGA how can you advertising , Hot cross Buns and Easter Eggs when we have just finished Christmas day, it show’s the true meanings of Christmas where our lord , our king was born and Easter the true meaning of our lord Christ died on the cross, you should be disgraced of yourselfs you are mocking and disgracing and lowering our dignity of our religions and our beliefs ,I think you have to go to this low marketing , I think you should be finned and how dear you mock the belief’s of so many of all religion’s this is the real meaning of festive seasons of Christmas and Easter, if you want to bring out hot cross buns , put the out as fruit buns and no sign of the cross until the start of lent , and also then bring out the Easter eggs.

  • All too often I see supermarkets exploit “religious themes”…. I do not like that they are taking a religious practice out of context and using it for profit… once during lent I saw them promoting expensive fish with a slogan “Fish for Fridays during Lent”.. it was just ridiculous.. as if this was some sort of health advice when in reality it had pickedup on one custom in a particular religious denomination from many decades ago (when the custom was ‘no meat’ on Fridays all year round… nothing to do with lent).

  • Religion is behind the reason most people celebrate Easter and Christmas. They may have started with religious conitations, but not many people know about them. These celebrations are mostly reasons to eat too much, drink too much, spend too much money and gave awesome family get togethers

  • The commercialisation of many things is taking away from true meaning of special occasions now.

  • Supermarkets are a business and they cater for everyone.

  • Hot cross buns seemed to be coming out earlier and earlier every year.

  • Any special time of the year that can be used to make money will be promoted by retailers. They say that they are doing it because it’s what their customers want. So the only way to change their method of promoting things like this, so many months before the actual occasion, is for customers not to buy whatever the stores are promoting. If people don’t buy the hot x buns/easter eggs/whatever, then the stores won’t stock them so early.

  • it seems like it is a never ending cycle of moving on to the next holiday promotion, it bugs me too how soon they bring things out

  • they do bring it out too early!

  • I agree – they should just sell them as fruit buns when it is just after Christmas.

  • Unfortunately, all these events are overly commercialised nowadays and a lot of people don’t remember the true meanings behind these events anymore.

  • My family loves easter, yummy chocolate and hot cross buns. But I could not believe that we just got over Christmas and a week or so later I was seeing hot cross buns, I have only just started buying them. Just after christmas is way to soon for me.

  • You have to remember that not everyone can afford to wait until Lent to start buying their hot cross buns etc. Many people especially pensioners and single parent families start purchasing early in the new year and freezing items to make sure they can afford to celebrate Easter.

  • I think the shops/supermarkets just jump on the commercial aspect of the bandwagon. while i do understand where you are coming from i guess as long as in your home and family you are keeping true to your faith just try to put the other stuff aside.

  • I think it puts pressure on people with all the advertising directly after the event. People have only just gotten over the financial impact of Christmas and then there’s valentines day etc. unfortunately Gary a lot of people have forgotten the true meaning of these events. A lot of people probably wouldn’t even know the symbology behind the cross on the buns, shrove Tuesday or lent.
