Hello!

My son got sick last weekend and it is now friday and he is still sick. Nothing worse for a mother to see your child so sick. It started with the shakes and chills and the following morning he woke up overheated and started to vomit due to the high temperature but at the same time I looked down and all this blood was coming out, I did panic for a minute but quickly worked out the nose was bleeding at the same time. I took him to the doctors and he just said it was a virus but mother intuition kicked in and I just knew it was more so I demanded antibiotics just in case because, nothing worse than having to return back to the doctors a second time. His throat has been so sore and more down further than the doctor looked and he has not had a runny nose , voice is full of mucus and a cough is now starting to try and get it all out. I started him on the antibiotics yesterday so I am now hoping the his temperature will go back to normal and he starts to feel a little bit better.

  • If your son had tonsillitis, it could have been acute, cause vomitting and swollen glands including in his stomach. They can also poison your bloodstream. I know of 2 cases. One child quickly became delirious. With strong antibiotics it cleared up but was a constant problem. At 5 .y.o. her tonsils were removed. Her younger sister had almost as sever a problem. Her tonsils were removed before she started school. THeir Dad had also had his tonsils removed. It sometimes seems to run in families. In some cases it almost seems as though it could be hereditary.

  • You’re lucky that Dr prescribed anti biotics when he said it was a virus. My Dr won’t even prescribe the pill if he thinks I don’t need one yet :/ Hope your boy is on the mend

  • If it is a virus antibiotics will NOT help anitibiotics only fight bacterial infections hence the name anti (fights against/kills) biotics (bacteria). I do hope everything worked out

  • Poor thing, it’s so hard watching your kids sick but mums intuition always knows beat, I find sometimes I have to put my foot down at the doctors also, they don’t know our kids to the extent that we do.

  • Thank you all for your kind wishes 2 weeks later and he is still not at school. He did go back for just 2 days but then came down with a bad dry cough that is constant every 1-3 seconds and has been with him now for the last 3 days. Went back to the doctors today and the result was that his throat is trying to heel which is causing the cough and he has been given some more antibiotics. The more I talk to people, the more I am hearing how a lot of people have it. At least school holidays are coming up as he will have plenty of time to recover.

  • Hopefully your little boy is on the mend now. It’s horrible watching them when they are ill and just need to get through it.

  • I do hope he improves and if you feel he is not get better take him to the hospital and see what happens. I is a terrible feeling as a parent when you just can not take it away and fix it. Keep penadol up as well to help with fevers and aches. Do hope he improves soon

  • The temp should be down the next after a full days dose of antibiotics-other symtoms will improve over the next 2-3days. If temp still there you need to see GP again

  • Hope your son has improved and is feeling a little better. I am no expert but wondering if he has tonsillitis? but thinking the Dr should have picked this up though. If he is not feeling better definitely take him to a different Dr for a second opinion or even the ER at the hospital. Wishing you both all the best and praying all is well.

  • Hope your little boy starts to pick up soon.
I hate seeing any of my kids ill even my 18 year old just makes you feel so helpless as all you can do is be with them.

  • I hope your little boy is improving now. If his temperature is still up, think about going to the children’s hospital for a second opinion on what is going on with him.
