Hello!

Last Wednesday was my last Wednesday of minding our granddaughter as she starts big school next week. I have babysat her every week since she was born (+ many weekends & sleep overs thrown in) & I have to admit I’m feeling a little sad. I have loved the weekly highlight of just giving my day up for her & in the past 2 years my husband has been retired & enjoying the Wednesdays too! We have taken her on many exciting days out & days just chilling out at home were she has developed a very loving bond with us. She has told us we will still see her on weekends & school holidays to do all that stuff still so don’t feel sad Grandma & Pa!.

  • You have been a very lucky grandma! Many don’t get to see their grandkids at all. I would give anything to have been in your position. You can still enjoy some weekends and other sleepovers. I’m sure this won’t be the end of the visits, just a reduction

  • That is a bit sad. But how wonderful to have been able to have this experience with her! I’m about to be a grandma and mine will be interstate, so I’ve resigned myself to being a part time, once a year visit grandma :,(

  • Just a proud update: Our granddaughter called in yesterday afternoon dressed in her school uniform just to show me. I have never felt so loved when all she wanted to do was sit & tell me all about her PORTANT first day at school!

  • I think we all feel a bit sad with the changes when a child starts school

  • Sounds like a beautiful and loving bond. My parents and grandma are interstate, oh how I wish for this. What a wonderful thing you both have :)

    • It is so special when you have them so close by, I’m so thankful we didn’t do the sea change my husband & I had planned on his retirement. My grandkids are my world & I wouldn’t want it any other way.

  • How nice :) They seem to grow up too fast

    • So true! The last 5 years feel like a blink of the eye!

  • I wish my daughters had their grandparents around more often.

    • I agree, but our eldest granddaughter still keeps in contact by Skype with her other Grandparents & has just the same relationship with them which she & they need too!

  • How lucky she is to have you around, it will be a blessing that you will still see her in the holidays and weekends

    • Thanks Pakeko, It is great that we live fairly close & she often phones me between her visits with her updates too!

  • Oh what a lovely bond you must have. I hope you have some lovely things planned to do to make the transition easier for you.

    • Thanks Kymichelle, We are blessed with 4 beautiful grandkids & we are lucky to be able to help out the latter 3 when we are needed. Hubby wants to do abit of travelling too, so I guess I’ll adapt to it. Going to see our eldest granddaughter in her school uniform when she starts school next Tuesday so maybe a few tears after then.

  • I feel for you. My parents used to look after my little girl once a week and they really missed her when I quit work to stay home after my second was born. But I can tell you that she has such a special bond with them and they with her. It was valuable time that they spent together and those memories last a lifetime and the bond is never broken. I know you’re a bit sad, but be happy that you spent all that special time together.

    • Thankyou Mel, It is a bond that will always remain. I will always cherish the time together.
