So this is basically a vent…
We just moved from a 2bedroom house to a 6 bedroom house, I have a 7 week old baby ( 3 weeks at time of the move) and a 2.5 yr old and at the signing of the lease the agent said we would be getting a weeks free rent to clean ( I was under the impression they meant the old house) Little did they tell me they meant the new house which HADNT been cleaned and on arrival to the new home there was mould EVERYWHERE!!! And having a newborn & asthmatic toddler I was disgusted that a reputable agent would allow a family into a home with a health hazard such as this. I rang and said to the agent that a cleaner didn’t arrive and there was mushrooms growing out of the floor and mould all over the house. You would think paying the amount we are that they would have discussed this with me in greater detail. Sorry but this to me is so unprofessional.

  • That is friggen disgusting!! So what happened when you spoke to the agent about it? It sounded like the agent just wanted to make a deal and that was it. I always take photos of before I moved in and after I move out so capture everything!!

  • That’s terrible. So unprofessional! I’d be so angry.

  • that can’t be done! its wrong

  • Sorry, but didn’t you inspect prior? In most states it is law you have to look before you lease. You might need to contact tenants advice bureau to check if the agent has broken the laws in your state

  • You must’ve viewed the house before you signed the lease, it’s a prerequisite for leasingf a property.. Were you told the house would be cleaned up before you signed?

  • That is absolutely terrible. Sorry you had to go through that. Cleaning any house is hard enough let alone with a newborn.

  • I’d be looking for somewhere else to live, but use a different agent and inspect the new place before agreeing to move in next time. I’d also be complaining to the relevant authority.

How stressful when you should be enjoying your newborn and toddler, not cleaning someone else grotty mould etc.

  • Mushrooms growing from the floor?I’d be looking at somewhere else to live especially with little kids. You are all going to get sick

  • You’d think if the agent offered you this deal he would at least explain what sort of condition the house was in! How wierd!

  • did you not look at the house prior to moving in ??? as surely this hasn’t happened in a short space of time.
I would be taking photos showing the agent and if they don’t do anything about it they tell them that you will be taking this much further.
Good luck hope you get it all sorted.

  • we had a similar situation. When we moved i even checked with the agent a couple of days before to make sure the place was clean. I was told it would be fine. When we moved in it was beyond disgusting. felt like We were sleeping in a cheap motel. Even smelt of cat wee. Just make sure you document everything and take lots and lots of photos. It’s not a pleasant situation.

  • I do feel for you. Did you take pictures of the place? I don’t know what state you’re in but I’d be taking my complaints to the appropriate authority, what happened to you is a disgrace and the agent needs a wake up call.

  • Sounds shocking, but hadn’t you seen the place before you moved in? I’m puzzled.

  • Totally defeats going through an agent. Duty of care. Entry forms. I would follow this up.

  • That’s gross. I’ve had many bad experiences with rentals and cleanliness!! Some agents just don’t care!!

    • Yeah, that’s right. Some agent didn’t care about that matter.

      • I have a very much dislike rental agencies because of bad experiences.

  • was there any form of inspection prior to signing the lease? I thought that it was a legal requirement these days that you have actually inspected the property.

If you are staying there, I would highly recommend investing in some CLOVE OIL, as this will actually kill the mould, and not just bleach it.

  • Have you thought about complaining to the rentalboard . That is disgusting behaviour

  • oh my god I always thought they were cleaned for the next family could move in, I hope none of it is black spores as they can make you very sick.this is what we all used for our houses after the floods and it stops it from growing and kills the mold so here is what we use oil of cloves put into a spray add water and spray all the mold. You will still have to give it a good scrub but the mold will be dead and should not grow back, This house sounds like it is a health hazard also take photo’s of it all and show your real estate and let them see hoe it was and also let them know this stand to hold making your kids sick also if any of you get sick take the picks with as it may help the doctor work out the cause and their best action to take to help them.
