After the birth of our first child I struggled to remember to take the mini pill while breast feeding. After much discussion, my husband and I decided whatever will be will be and we would just leave it to the powers that be. I finished breast feeding when our son was 10 months old and shortly after I had a period that just didn’t seem to end. After six weeks I made an appointment with my doctor and five days before our sons first birthday I found out I was pregnant, that it was unviable and had a DNC the next day.
It was heartbreaking at the time. I distanced myself from a group of mums that I knew would have provided me with great support but most were just pregnant themselves. They didn’t need my misery at such a happy time.
After a few months we were allowed to try for a baby and after what seemed a very long six months, I fell pregnant. I knew at exactly four weeks pregnant and a few days later I started feeling ill. I put it down to lots of different things thinking it was too early for morning sickness. At six weeks I couldn’t do up my pants, the ones I had been wearing before I lost 8kg. I knew second babies could show earlier but it was getting a bit ridiculous! At 7 weeks pregnant my doctor sent me for an ultrasound, just in case following my previous miscarriage.
Holy moley, I spotted the two sacs on the ultrasound screen right before the sonographer told us we were expecting twins! And at 36 weeks pregnant, after what was a pretty smooth pregnancy, our beautiful twin boys were born. Not quite the plan we had, but what an amazing an addition to our family – TWINS!
