As a kid I loved the school holidays when my mum use to take my brother and I to the drive in. We would get dressed in our PJ’s, take snacks and drinks. We would pull up and place the green speaker box on the window of our car and were so excited to watch a movie. The drive in was great as it was cheaper than buying tickets for each of us and mum was a single parent on a limited income. I have so many fond memories of the drive in growing up.
This is why I am so glad that in South Australia we still have one drive in left (and the community in another suburb are rallying to get the funds to reopen another one). My hubby and I took the two kids to the drive in on Saturday night. My daughter was ecstatic, my son, well he is only 17 months so he did not understand what was going on.
I made dinner to save us money, packed it in disposable containers. I packed some pastries for dessert and a box of shapes. We took our own drinks and my daughter jumped into her PJ’s and donned her dressing gown which does not get much use and off we went.
We saw Inside Out (an awesome movie which really explains how all feelings are important) and we made memories. I love the drive in, I cannot wait till my little boy is old enough to get excited and not sleep through the whole thing. I cannot wait to make more fond memories with my family!
