  • Highly recommend Port Arthur, oh and if you’re a chocaholic like me….definitely the Cadbury factory too

  • I live in Tassie and love it. You would have to visit the Port Arthur Historic Site. And if you get there, you’ll need a couple of days to visit other places around the Tasman Peninsula. Around Hobart, the MONA museum and Cadburys would be 1 and 2 on my list. So much more to see thoigh

  • Hi All,
Just arrived back home from Tasmania on Sunday. We had the most amazing time.
    What a beautiful place!
I can not wait to go back.
I loved learning about the history and seeing all the beautiful little towns. It is a great destination. Definately recommend it to people who have not been there before.

  • I was born and raised in Tasmania and most of my family still live there. I would recommend the West Coast and going for a cruise to Sarah Island, where they shipped convicts and there are some beautiful rainforest walks. Wineglass Bay and Frecinet on the East Coast are also very beautiful. Hobart and the Salamanca markets are famous and absolutely beautiful. Hope this helps.

    • Thank you for your comment..very helpful. Cant wait to vsiti such a beautiful State!

  • We visited in winter and as a Qld’er at the time I was VERY cold, meanwhile hubby was getting around in shorts ha ha. We loved our visit albeit we only got to spend a week there. We based ourselves just outside of Hobart and got to see some beaches, did the markets which have been mentioned, loved the Botanical Gardens as well as Mt Wellington which was lovely. The Cadbury factory was a delish day whilst we also did a day trip to Bruny Island to see the seals/wildlife. I hope you enjoy your holiday!

    • Cadbury factory..I like the sound of that ha ha :)

      • I loved our trip to Tassie (a few years ago now) & we tried to fit in most of the places mentioned but we only had 9 days so I would love to return one day & complete the trip. Enjoy yours!

  • You will love it! I live in Tassie so I’m a bit biased. It really depends on where you are going, what time of year, and what you are interested in as there is history and beautiful scenery throughout our state!

Spring, Summer and Autumn are the best months to visit (although I love our Winters too but visitors don’t always!)

If you come to Launceston you must see the Gorge (see photo) – beautiful scenery, places to eat, walks, a chairlift and lots of wildlife. The Seaport here in Launceston is a lovely place for walks and to eat, and City Park is beautiful (and child friendly if you have children with you) Other things close to us are Tamar valley winery tours, Hollybank Treetop adventures, Beaconsfield Mine – so many things to see here!

Drive time from Launceston to anywhere in the state is just a matter of hours – 1 hour to Devonport and 2 hours to Hobart so it’s a great base. The East Coast beaches are very beautiful especially Coles Bay and Freycinet National Park.

Mt Wellington and Salamanca Markets in Hobart are popular.

I could go on forever but your best bet is probably the Discover Tasmania website: http://www.discovertasmania.com.au/travel-information/visitor-information-centres

I hope you have a brilliant holiday here in our beautiful state!

    • Thank you so much for taking the time to respond, the gorge looks beautiful! We are catching the ferry and driving so we can move around alot which is good.
I will definately the check the website out.
My husband has been to Tasmania twice but i myself have never been. He said i will love it..I am so excited to be going there. :)

      • Taking the boat is a good idea. You can minimise car hire costs by doing it that way. It looks like a small state but you will be surprised at what each different corner of the state has to offer. The landscape is totally different on each side of the state :)
