We all tell our kids little while lies, wives tales or myths (we all call it something different). One that I’ve always said to my children when they gave me dirty looks or rolled their eyes at me was “The wind will change and you’ll stay like that”. I really didn’t think anything of it, it something that my mother said to me and now I find myself repeating it to my kids.

Recently my daughter in the 4th grade has developed a crush on a boy at school in the 7th grade and was devastated to find out that he already had a girlfriend. When I asked about the girlfriend, my daughter replied that she didn’t like her, not because she knew anything about her but because she didn’t think she was attractive “because the wind had changed and now she was stuck looking like that” !!!! Thankfully it wasn’t something she said in public or to the young girl in question. I was mortified at the comment but secretly happy that she’d actually listened to something that I’d said.

  • Thanks for sharing your story. I was always told that swallowing watermelon seeds was dangerous and watermelons would grow in my tummy! I always thought watermelon seeds would grow in my tummy – they never did! :)

    • My 2 eldest boys believed I ate watermelon seeds when I was pregnant with my 3rd child & refused to eat it from then on!

      • LOL! Very cute! Those watermelon seeds! I remember watching my tummy all night and being so relieved when it was not the size of a watermelon in the morning! ;)

      • Hope they eventually eat some more watermelon! ;)
