Hi All! March 2008 I was pregnant with my first baby, was really happy and everything going well until week 23 when I went to see my OB and I was told I was going into labour. I had an emergency cervical cerclage and was put on bed rest. All our plans changed in a matter of minutes. We have no family at all in Australia, so it was me and my husband on a difficult journey. We had good friends but they were also busy with full time jobs. My husband had to look after the house leave all meals cooked for me so I didn’t have to do much. With good bed rest my boy was born at 34 weeks and 3 days. After this I though what hope do we have for baby number 2? No family to help us with the first one, I wouldn’t be able to work….so we did it anyway. April 2011 I was pregnant with baby number 2 and although it wasn’t easy ( another cervical cerclage, gallbladder removal at 18 weeks and usinf a walking stick for 2 months) I was lucky to delivered this baby at 38 weeks and 3 days! With a lot of help from God, my wonderful Obstetrician and positive positive thinking. Of course a lot of resting as well whenever was possible.

  • It’s under circumstances like this you definitely need local community support.
Childcare/daycare is a good option to care for your first child during the day is ideal if available.

  • You were determined to have your babies weren’t you? Glad to see your wishes came true. So hard for you having no family close by, even harder the second time around, trying to have bed rest whilst caring for a toddler :0
