Hello!

Everyday I feel terrible when I have to leave my daughter at child care. At first she cried her eyes out every time I dropped her off, and I thought that she has to get used to it and it will all be better given time. It’s now more than 1 year now and she still gives me trouble when I drop her off. It makes me so sad that she cries (although it’s not quite as bad as before). I don’t know what to do to make her enjoy going there. It seems though that when I go to pick her up she is fine and loves playing with the other kids.

  • We found the quicker you leave the quicker they settle down. We were advised of that by childcare centres and relatives the kids couldn’t get to quick enough until they realised we were leaving without them. If we hesitated they threw whoppers of tantrums until a few minutes after they knew we were out of sight.

  • I worked part time after kids were born for a few years, then they asked me back full time and had to ask my MIL to help which she wanted to anyway as she did it with the rest. Guilt doesn’t go away and it could be she was so used to one person ( you ) looking after her and it might be just allowing her a bit of time for her to get used to a slightly different routine . I don’t think there is a time limit .

  • It’s a difficult situation fir mother and child, most learn how to cope though. I hope you and your daughter have found your way

  • Does the guilt ever go away? I’m heading back and just don’t know how much I’ll be able to take on.

  • I think this sounds quite normal.

  • I see this is an old post. I hope your daughter has settled down into childcare and not feeling so upset.
