I am not an overally political person – i don’t usually trust politicians and am fairly skeptical of promises that they make, however i must say i sat up and took notice this year after a man by the name of Nick McGowen ran for a seat in my local electorate. It came to my attention that this man was no ordinary politician when he knocked on my front door to introduce himself 6 months ago. Casually handing out his card, he offered his help and support in an areas that i felt were needed in the community. I then proceeded to see him everywhere in the community – standing in the side of the road on cold and frosty Monday mornings to show he was aware of the traffic issues, working his way through shopping strips and chatting to locals and even taking the time to deliver his policy beliefs by hand. All this and he was continuing to work and support his wife and 3 children. Although he didn’t win his seat, i really felt that it was completely different and refreshing to have someone genuinely show and interest in the community and take the time to talk to the locals.
