Hello!

Every Christmas my children’s list seems to get smaller, but way more expensive. Don’t get me wrong, I have great kids, but this year’s ‘gift-pectations’ are mind-blowing. Anyone else in the same boat?

Plush toys and books have made way for mobile phones and gaming monitors. And somewhere along the line, the most precious Christmas gift of all has been lost. If the same is happening in your home, stick with me.

The Most Precious Gift At Christmas

For kids, the biggest lesson we can teach them at this time of year, is that it is always better to give, rather than receive. It’s a concept they can grasp really early on. Just look at the way they joyously share their finger food when they’re just babies. Or how proud they are when they bring home a drawing from kindy they did just for you.

Children are beautifully empathetic, caring and kind. And there’s no better time of year to help them tap into their giving nature, then by helping other children at Christmas.

Drones delivering Christmas kindness across Australia

The Smith Family Christmas Appeal

In one of the most unique acts of kindness this holiday season, on-demand residential drone delivery service Wing has partnered with The Smith Family for a sweet gesture of giving. For a limited time customers who live in Wing’s delivery service areas in Canberra, ACT and Logan, Queensland will be able to order a free The Elf on the Shelf plush toy and have it delivered to their home within minutes.

And here’s the beautiful kicker – for each The Elf on the Shelf toy delivered, Wing is donating $5 to The Smith Family to support its Toy and Book Appeal. And to keep that warm and fuzzy feeling going, Wing is encouraging every family who receives an Elf to pay it forward and consider making a donation to The Smith Family.

The Smith Family Christmas Toy and Book Appeal

Every year The Smith Family helps put the jingle in the bells of so many Aussie kids who would otherwise miss out on opening a Christmas present. With your help (and some Christmas magic) The Smith Family is aiming to support more than 29,000 Australian children living in disadvantage this Christmas.

This year’s appeal is a little different, and instead of the organisation’s traditional toy and book collection, a digital gift voucher will find its way into the hands of each child who would normally get a gift pack.

Even if you’re not in Wing’s delivery area and can’t get your hands on a free Elf, please consider donating to The Smith Family. The best way we can teach our children about just how precious it is to give, is leading by example.

  • Yes, I think the true meaning of Christmas has been lost. We do not go overboard when gifting our children at Christmas. We try to teach them exactly this to be kind to others.

  • I love that we should be teaching our kids to give rather than receive. The Smith family is a very worthwhile charity.

  • The Smith family is a great cause but it’s upsetting when the kids can’t be physically given the gifts due to covid

  • I would prefer to give a main present and then some cheaper fillers that are useful so I don’t have mess everywhere all the time. Mind you it still happens but not as bad if I do this.

  • My grandson is super excited for Christmas. He can’t wait til ‘the 6th of Met-tember’ when elf turns up and the tree is erected
