If you are struggling to choose between vaporisers, diffusers, and humidifiers in your search for the best relief for colds we’ve got the answers!

As the temperature drops and the winter chill we’ve all be dreading arrives, it’s inevitable that sniffly noses and chesty coughs won’t be far behind. When it comes to choosing the best remedy for a cold that just won’t budge, however, it can be difficult to know where to start. To take the struggle out of making the best choice for your family, we’ve put together a handy guide to help ease congestion once and for all!

Soothing Warmth

Some parents use a snot sucker to remove congestion, while others turn to the soothing, effectiveness of steam to provide relief from the congestion of a nasty cold. It might come as a surprise then that so many of us choose cold mist diffusers and humidifiers without realising that we are missing the important benefits that warmth has to offer when you are feeling under the weather.

The Vicks WarmSteam Vaporiser combines Vicks’ longstanding reputation for comforting Aussie families through the winter months with the natural power of warm steam to help all ages manage cold & flu symptoms. If you needed further proof that it works, Vicks was awarded a ‘Highly Commended’ in the Humidifiers & Vaporizer category of Reader’s Digest Most Trusted Brands Awards in 2021 as voted by the people of Australia so it seems that many of us are already feeling its soothing effects! Warm steam is the only choice proven to ease congestion when compared to its cold mist counterparts so it’s a no-brainer if you want to be prepared for winter.

All Night Relief

When your little ones are bunged up and struggling to sleep, it’s more important than ever to choose effective products that will help. The Vicks WarmSteam Vaporiser creates a soothing flow of moist warm steam in the bedroom at night. This steam helps to open up the airways, reduce coughing and congestion, and soothe both a sore throat and itchy eyes. It can even be safely used for newborns, giving you peace of mind throughout the night and providing relief from the uncomfortable symptoms of colds, flu, bronchitis, and croup.

The Vicks VapoSteam Inhalant is the perfect addition to the Vicks WarmSteam Vaporiser, providing the refreshing fragrance of eucalyptus and peppermint to penetrate nasal and throat passages quickly and safely to gently soothe and comfort.

Multi-Tasking Power

There’s often confusion about the function of vaporisers when compared to diffusers or cool mist humidifiers, particularly when it comes to their cold-busting potential. Diffusers have some benefits for a blocked nose, but they do not humidify or heat the air which is essential for relieving congestion. Humidifiers go one step further, adding moisture to the air, but don’t add humidity to the therapeutic levels that a warm steam vaporiser does for congestion relief. Vaporisers like the Vicks WarmSteam Vaporiser, however, provides the multi-tasking power of both heat and steam. The powerful steam reduces mucous thickness, eases a scratchy throat, reduces coughing, and alleviates the dry eyes associated with the common cold.

A multi-tasking vaporiser like the Vicks WarmSteam Vaporiser also offers the added benefit of incorporating both steam and scent into one compact device, with the Vicks VapoSteam Inhalant ensuring that you are tackling the discomfort of a cold from every angle in one simple device, without the need for a separate diffuser.

So next time you find yourself or your little ones battling a stuffy nose or sore throat and are looking for a practical, quality health solution,  choose the multi-functional power of warm steam and trust the proven results of the Vicks WarmSteam Vaporiser.

  • I prefer a diffuser even though the two are quite similar. Humidifiers work to increase the humanity only, diffusers disperse essential oils which I love. Essential oils are in my opinion more beneficial to me.

  • I’m glad to have this helpful info as tbh I wasn’t sure what the advantages each were.

  • I’ve always wondered the differences! Similar to below comments I do get concerned about mould but if only using for cold and flu symptoms at night it should be ok

    • Heard about this making the room mouldy. Have got a Dottera one and loving it.

  • I had a euky bear one but it’s sadly stopped working.. I swear by these vaporisers! They do make the room very wet and mould develop but open the window in the morning to let it dry out will stop the mould growing

  • We used to have a humidifier but then I gave it away to my mum because I found that our room started to get mouldy.
What kind of effect does this one have in terms of mould? I’m curious to try it as my kids have been getting runny noses quite often this winter but I don’t want to start getting mould again.
Our place backs up into a creek so it’s already quite moist around the area. I just want to make sure before investing in another gadget.

  • It’s nice to see a simple explanation breaking down the differences between the three.

  • WE got the Vick’s warm steam vaporiser, but we found it started to get a yellowish crusty marking on the inside, which no matter how much I scrubbed, I couldn’t get off. I was too worried to use it after that, as I was worried it was toxic.

    • We also have this vaporiser and have found it to be fantastic, especially if you use it at the first sign of a sniffle. I’m sure I remember reading on the instructions that you are supposed to use a butter knife to clean the ‘crust’ from the metal inside and also regularly clean by soaking in vinegar. Ours comes out working like new and has lasted for years.

  • Sounds like an add for the Vicks warm steam vaporiser.
It does make sense though, long before these products were on the market, we would hang our face -covered with a cloth- above a pan with boiling water with vicks…it did the trick
