Hello!

I’ve met many people who have wanted to do something more for the world: doing more to give back to the community they live in, to do something they really love but put away when life got busy with children and work and home, doing something for a cause they care about, or simply to find a bigger purpose for their lives instead of just eat, work, sleep, and repeat.

Something that has come up for many of these people is this sentiment: “I would like to do more, but I don’t know where to start”.

What can you uniquely give?

Sometimes we come across a story in the news, or we see something with our own eyes that compel us to take some kind of action, and sometimes we are at the right place at the right time, beckoned to do something that we had never imagined we’d do. But sometimes we sit down and think about our lives and wonder “is this it?” and feel an inkling that there is something greater that we can give and contribute that would bring more meaning and depth to our existence on Earth.  To start exploring what it is that we might be called to do, I say “start with yourself”.

What I mean by starting with the self:

  • Who are you? What do you believe in for humanity?
  • How do you want to live this one life that is yours to create?
  • What ideas do you want you and your life to represent?
  • What do you believe in with all your heart that you are willing to fight for?

When we can get down into the root of who we uniquely are, we can find what it is that we are here to uniquely give.

There are many ways to make a difference and to offer light, hope, and solutions for our world, and I truly believe that every person with their unique package of life purpose, passions, dreams, and life circumstance is meant to offer those things unique to them.  We can watch and learn how others do what they do, but to find YOUR most powerful and fulfilling way of giving, look to your true self.  All that we are meant to offer in this lifetime lies within us.

As you ask yourself “self questions” to get started or to move bigger steps forward, here is a video of a young woman named Maggie who has been an amazing inspiration for me. May you find inspiration from her story to find the light in you.

  • I joined QCWA 12 years ago, our small local branch. I have been able to give of myself in a small way without expecting anything in return. Be honest, open and give your time, talents and yourself from the heart.Even the poorest person can give these attributes. They go a long way in helping those in genuine need

  • Sadly I can’t view the video, but if you want to give more of yourself, and don’t know where to start, start by joining a service organisation like Lions or Rotary. These clubs do fantastic community work, but as the members are ageing, and very little “new blood” is coming in, there is a risk of them dying out. So join now, and see where it takes you!

  • Yes giving is very important, but learning it is hard. When we live in the 1 st worldwe forget the children n people living there in the world without food and water !
