The thought of jumping head-first into spring cleaning the entire house can be a little overwhelming, so one of the easiest ways to rip off the bandaid is to tackle a few small jobs just as the weather starts to warm up.

These are jobs that can be done in just a couple of hours, but they’ll help shake off the staleness of winter and add a freshness into your home – and they’re minimal effort!

Here are five easy wins that will leave your house looking and smelling better this weekend.

1. Wash The Sheets and Blankets

There’s something about clean sheets that feels like a total reset. Toss the pillowcases, sheets and doona covers into the wash and, if the sun’s out, hang them on the line. Bedding that’s dried outside has that crisp, fresh smell you just can’t get from a dryer. While you’re at it, don’t forget blankets and throws. They tend to soak up dust and odours, especially if you’ve had pets curled up on them all winter.

For bedding and blankets, a liquid detergent like Biozet Attack Plus Sensitive 2L is gentle but still gets everything properly clean, which is perfect if you’ve got family members with sensitive skin. If you want a solid all-rounder, Biozet Attack Regular 2L liquid is great for freshening up those heavier pieces without needing to rewash again anytime soon.

2. Freshen Up The Cushion Covers

Cushions are one of the easiest things to overlook, but they carry a lot of hidden grime, dust and smells. Think food crumbs, pet hair, and the occasional sticky fingerprint. Most covers zip off and can go straight in the washing machine. Pop them back on once they’re dry and suddenly your couch looks and smells like new again.

This is where laundry capsules are handy – toss them straight in with the cushion covers without measuring. Biozet Attack Regular Power Capsule 30 pack is an easy go-to for cushion covers and everyday washing, while the Biozet Attack Plus Eliminator Power Capsule 30 pack is great if you’re dealing with stubborn odours or mess from pets and kids.

3. Give (Some) Of The Windows A Quick Wipe

You don’t need to wash every window in the house to notice a difference. Focus on the ones you look out of most often, like in the living room or kitchen. A quick spray and wipe will clear away the streaks and smudges, letting more light pour in. Clean windows almost feel like lifting a filter off your home and you won’t cringe as the spring sun starts streaming through!

4. Declutter One Hot Spot

Every home has that one dumping ground. Maybe it’s the kitchen bench stacked with mail, the dining table covered in school projects, or the chair in the bedroom that doubles as a wardrobe. Choose one hot spot and tackle it. Fifteen minutes is usually all it takes, and the difference is instant. Get the kids to clear up their own dumping spots in their rooms – it a snack-sized job that will make a big difference.

5. Bring In The Fresh Air

This is the easiest job of all you can do this weekend, if the weather allows! Sometimes the best way to refresh a space is to simply open it up. Pull back the curtains, slide open the windows, and let the spring air move through the house. It pushes out that stuffy, closed-up feeling from winter.

Biozet Attack Laundry Detergents

There’s no need to kick off spring with a huge cleanup if you’re not feeling inspired. Make the washing machine and Biozet Attack your best friends for a start-of-spring reset this weekend.

  • Wipe of the trim on the top of the doors. Often this is forgotten but a lot of dust collects up there along with the fan blades of course.
I dont really do a spring clean as such as I feel that its something thats done all year round sadly

  • Firstly, open all those windows and doors and let that fresh warm breezy air flow all around! Second, a deep tidy always gives a freshened vibe- a thorough dust, a thorough vac, a thorough mop. Thirdly, for a real fresh vibe- rearrange your furniture! Nothing says Spring is here like a different look and feel to move forward out of the Winter rut with the new lovely weather.

  • Great ideas for Spring cleaning ! For one that doesn’t love cleaning, I like that there are tips here to make if so much less overwhelming. I love the tip about tackling just one hot spot and getting that one done before worrying about the whole house. It was also a good reminder to wash cushion covers ! I always forget about them, but it is so true that they tend to get quite a hammering with dirt, sweat, dust and fur – so it will now be one of those regular jobs I will now be putting on my cleaning list.

  • And if your kids are old enough, it’s worth considering “paying” them to do some surface cleanup jobs. My kids are readers, so I pay in points which can be redeemed for books (yep, I’m always so happy to “pay”). It’s a great way to get simple jobs like sweeping the front patio and steps done – and they can make a big difference to how you feel about your house.

I certainly do love spring but it never gave me this urge to do a spring clean. Personally I think cleaning is part of life and something we do every season of the year, weather it’s summer autumn, winter or spring. Why do people do a spring clean ?

  • Whenever spring comes around, it always gives me a new burst of energy and gets me into that declutter and cleaning mode. I love this time of year just to get rid of stuff. I feel so much lighter having less and my mind seems to feel more at ease too!

  • I love spring and the warmth sunshine it brings after a cold winter. I love opening up all my windows and doors to let in the fresh air and breeze that we get every afternoon in Perth. It is such a good time to wash your cushions and rugs that have been well loved over the winter period.

  • I loveeee spring cleaning! I’m a bit of a messy worker, I pull everything out and then sort it into piles of stuff and then reorganise it back into where it belongs. It’s so rewarding. I like to put some good music on or a movie in the background and get right into it

  • Being a mum of teenagers, what works for me is involving the kids and delegating chores around the house. As much as they grown, I tell them that if they help me, the jobs will get fine quicker which means more time I can spend with them doing things they love such as bushwalking and bike riding. My other tip is having great cleaning products in cloths for dusting, spraying mirrors etc.

  • We wash the sheets weekly anyway… But I do agree, the first day it’s warm enough to open all the windows is just great. It airs out the house (and I have a stinky teenage boy, so I REALLY look forward to it!) and definitely makes me feel spring like being able to have fresh air inside.
