Hello!

That big day of love is upon us once again! Valentine’s Day isn’t just for us ladies. It’s time to show your partner just how much they mean to you.

This year, ditch the chocolates, fancy dinners or lingerie and try something a bit different. The extra effort will make it a special day you both remember for some time to come.

1. Go Old School!

Remember how thrilling and exciting it was back in High School when you used to go parking at lover’s lane? How about making out at the movies? Plan a special date night to bring on those exhilarating moments. And, now that you are parents, you probably really do have a curfew of 10 or 11 pm to relieve that babysitter.

2. Get Out the Skates!

Ice skating is such a simple activity but can be so romantic. Take turns showing each other your best moves and then glide around the rink arm in arm. Make sure to bring some hot chocolate and a special treat to share.

3. Create a One of a Kind Keepsake!

After being together for a while, we tend to lose sight of all those reasons we fell in love with our spouse in the first place. Make him a special book listing all of his assets (Lord knows we focus on his shortcomings often enough). You could also include a re-cap of your first date, the moment you knew you wanted to spend your life with him, how you felt when you found out you were pregnant, etc. Just make him feel good about being him. It will also remind you of what a lucky lady you are!

4. Play Truth or Dare!

Think you know everything there is to know about your partner? I bet he is holding out a few secrets. Find out everything (or laugh at him completing hilarious dares). But, remember, you will be vulnerable too! Make the truths sexy and the dares funny. Truth questions could include: “What is the most off-limits place you would ever consider making love?” or “What is the body part about your mate that turns you on the most?” Dares could include: Put a pair of your partner’s underwear on your head and dirty dance for 3 minutes or Apply lipstick to your partner without using your hands. Get lustful, get silly, have fun.

5. Create Your Own Tradition!

You know each other best. Maybe it’s breakfast in bed, a picnic in the park or attending a sporting event. Whatever you two enjoy doing as a couple, go out and do it. Plan to make it a yearly tradition every Valentine’s Day.

And remember, showing each other how much you care is for every day, not just February 14th.

What is your favourite thing to do on Valentine’s Day? Do you have any suggestions to add to the list above? SHARE with us in the comments below.

  • Don’t think we will be doing anything for Valentine’s Day this year but my husband and I are trying to have a date night regularly. Might use some of these ideas for them as it can be hard to think of what to do – other than dinner and a movie!

  • We love to celebrate Valentine’s Day in many different ways and one of them is: cuisine. We choose a new country every year and book into a restaurant that specialises in that country’s cuisine. Our Valentine’s Day celebrations tend to go over many days as we like to celebrate in many ways; outings and kind gestures. Book tokens/vouchers are also a good idea as Valentine’s Day can keep on going throughout the year!

  • I’ll be doing lots of Valentine’s day crafts with my daughter and getting take away dinner and a dvd to have a date night at home with my husband.

Our yearly tradition is to get flowers and chocolates for our single mothers, I also bake them some treats and they get a handmade gift from our daughter. We don’t like the idea of them missing out on feeling special on a day dedicated to love. They always appreciate it 🙂

    • I also like making my husband a heart shaped breakfast every year! 🙂

  • Yup we should all focus on the positive more often, not just once a year.

  • Hi all! I agree, spending time with family and friends is wonderful also! No, Valentine’s Day isn’t just about couples. That was just the focus of this particular article. I have spent most of my Valentine’s Days without a partner and am completely ok with that. I was lucky enough to find my wonderful husband but I think we can all be happy with the place we are in life right now. So, married, single, dating, whatever…just remember all of the people you LOVE. I like the volunteering idea also 🙂

    • An excellent point; to love where you are right now and love the people you are with right now. 🙂

  • I would think ice skating just as likely to lead to injury as romance.
