Hello!

If you’ve had your eye on a Thermomix but could just never justify the cost, it’s soon to be your lucky week! Aldi has done it again! They’ve taken the lofty Thermomix, which may be out of reach for many Australians, shaken things up and tagged it with a price we can actually afford.

This ‘ultimate kitchen machine’ is called the Mistral Thermo Cooker and is on sale at Aldi on Saturday 7 September for the crazy price of only $299.

But before all the Thermomix lovers start a lynch mob, let me emphasise that no, this is NOT the authentic Thermomix. But let’s get real – a Thermomix TM6 will set you back the princely sum of $2,269. So you could actually buy 7 and a half of Aldi’s machines for the same price.

What Does A Thermo Cooker Do?

So why do you need another kitchen appliance in your life? Well, a thermo cooker is an amazing all-in-one machine that actually replaces a number of appliances that are taking up valuable bench space. The Aldi machine boasts that it can: “chop, mince, cook, boil, beat, knead, blend, stew, stir, steam, grate, saute, mix, melt, mill, whip and even crush ice and grind nuts.” Woah…that means if it all goes to plan, you can pretty much toss your food processor, mixer, steamer and grater in the bin.

According to Aldi, it comes with the following:

  • 2-litre stainless steel bowl
  • Integrated scale function
  • Reverse Function
  • 10-speed mixing
  • 1000W heating power
  • 800W motor
  • Double safety lock
  • 3-year warranty
  • Includes chopping blade, mixing tool and recipe book

In addition, the steamer basket is also included.

In the past Big W have also sold the Mistral Thermo Cooker.

Aldi has also in the past sold thermo cooker machines, under the brand name of Kuchef. However, this machine had some major issues and even warranted a nation-wide recall for potential scalding. So Aldi have changed brands to Mistral instead.

Reviews

There are not many reviews about this particular appliance but the ones that are available are very positive. The main outtake is that while the Aldi Thermo Cooker may not be in the same calibre of quality fastidiousness as the Thermomix, it certainly does a really good job.

In addition, comments about the Mistral Thermo Cooker received lots of accolades from enthusiastic members of a discount addicts facebook group.

One comment read: “I still have my mistral been going strong for 3.5yrs.”

While another enthused: “3 year warranty is good! Better than thermomix!”

“I own this (Aldi version of Thermomix) and it is awesome!,” read another comment.

Some did caution that while it’s a great alternative to the ‘real deal’, it is not as a good as a Thermomix:

“Great for the price. Excellent way to suss out of the thermie life is for you.
But as one who did four years of an aldi cooker and then upgraded to a thermie……. there is no comparison. Thermie is the absolute tits!!!”

I reckon that this is a GREAT BUY and my prediction is that they’re going to fly off the shelves. So get ready to grab your Thermo Cooker before they sell out!

BONUS TIP: Aldi’s special buys on the same day, also includes a $149 airfryer which gets rave reviews.

  • I have another knock off product and its awesome.

  • I’ve always been on the fence with this type of product. It’s hard to believe that one item can do all of that seamlessly.

  • I wish, I couldn’t afford it

  • The instruction booklet says all the stainless steel parts can be put in a dishwasher but the base of the bowl is plastic and has the electric parts so it would need to be separated. But no mention of how to/if you can separate?
The instruction booklet contradicts itself three times about the pulse function and still can’t get it to work…

  • I would like to see one in action before spending a week’s grocery money on one

  • I think I would go for the real thermie only, just in Case there were issues with the dangerous side of the machine.

  • such a shame: I would love to try it but we don’t have an Aldi

  • Right, I’m onto the reviews to weigh up whether I need it. I wonder if it explodes like the Thermomix!

  • Great price.

  • No point in me even thinking about it. I’m not willing to drive for 6 hours and then possibly miss out. Don’t think I need one anyway.

  • I want one :))

  • I’ve never been interested in a Thermomix – can’t ever justify the $ for an appliance. So I appreciate this could be a super alternative. I won’t be lining up though. I don’t need another appliance.

  • I would question the quality, but it would be good to hear from more reviewers and see whether it is actually even worth the $300, I could never afford the real deal and why would you spend so much money on an appliance, are we getting that lazy? And to suggest to throw out your old appliances is not environmentally friendly we do not want more junk in landfill. I never replace any appliance until it reaches the point of no return. My trusty Sunbeam blender is still going strong even though I would not mind getting a Vitamix or similar I won’t until the old Sunbeam dies. That goes with all my appliances, even TV’s still waiting for the old CRT to die.

  • This looks great, and the lower price is great for people who cant afford the real thing, or wish to not spend so much on one appliance!

  • i doubt I’d it enough to warrant the cost.

  • Still quite dear for us. I’m coping well without, so no need to desire things I don’t have :)
