What if you’re scared you committed a crime but can’t remember? From the bestselling author of Six Minutes and The Liars comes an unputdownable thriller about the secrets we keep from each other – and ourselves. And here’s your chance to win a copy of The Last Trace.

‘Petronella McGovern consistently delivers smart, twisty page-turners guaranteed to keep her readers coming back for more.’ LIANE MORIARTY

‘The Last Trace has the winning combination of strong plot and heart that is sure to make it a favourite with fans of Sally Hepworth and Caroline Overington. One tip? Block out your diary. It’s unlikely you’ll want to move until you’ve devoured the last page of this story.’ – BOOKS + PUBLISHING

Family. It means everything to Sheridan. She has missed having her brother around. At last, Lachy is back in Australia, and Sheridan can’t wait to spend the Easter holidays all together in the mountains with their kids.

But, on Good Friday, something devastating happens that rips their two families apart, and now she can’t imagine ever forgiving him.

Lachy knows he’s not coping, but his sister doesn’t have the full story. And, terrifyingly, nor does he. There are some critical gaps in his memory. How is he connected to a missing woman, a hit-and-run, and a request for DNA?

To untangle the truth, Lachy must decide who he can trust. His sister? His friends? Even himself?

The Last Trace is a gripping thriller about siblings and secrets, and the traces we can never erase.

Petronella has created her own genre and never fails to impress. The Last Trace is the perfect book to curl up with. Prepare to be hooked!’ Sarah Bailey, author of Body of Lies and The Housemate

‘Emotionally charged and wholly compelling, The Last Trace is a brilliantly twisty tale about the slipperiness of memory and how our past is never truly buried. Strap in and enjoy the ride because you never quite know where this story will take you.’ Anna Downes, author of Red River Road and The Safe Place

‘Two stories about different worlds collide in The Last Trace, an enthralling, brilliantly plotted novel of suspense. With contemporary themes, rich characters and an ending that I can’t stop thinking about, Petronella McGovern has written one of the best books of the year.’ JP Pomare, author of The Wrong Woman

  • I love thrillers of all kinds and one that involves secrets and siblings is even better. It is a form of escapism that absorbs me from start to finish. Time disappears so it is perfect for a time I am trapped eg on a plane or at the hairdresser. I haven’t read Petronella McGovern so there is the added benefit of trying a new author (for me).

  • Significant air travel upcoming and that means its perfect timing to get lost in a good book or two. This sounds just the ticket.

  • My 2024 goal was to read more and I’m still yet to finish one book. I reckon a good thriller like this would motivate me to finally get back into reading.

  • Siblings and secrets, do tell me more! Would love to read and see what is being hidden.

  • Nothing better than a good thriller while cosied up in bed on a winter’s evening. Plot sounds compelling!

  • A good thriller to read is what I need as it will keep me guessing and on the edge of my seat and I’m so over TV.
