Every Australian parent knows the routine. Find the shade, park the pram, then move everything again twenty minutes later as the sun shifts. For babies under six months, who are generally too young for sunscreen, shade is particularly important. So what happens when the shade doesn’t stay put?

Meet ShadyBaby, the portable UPF50+ shade that attaches magnetically to your pram, so your baby’s shade goes wherever you go. A feed at the park, tummy time on the grass or a break on the playmat at the beach. The shade comes too.

A product born from a real morning at the beach

ShadyBaby was created by Western Australian couple Kasi and Trent Taylor, first-time parents who found themselves chasing shade during a morning at the foreshore with their newborn son, Layne. As the sun moved, so did everything else: the playmat, the pram, the dog, the coffees and the baby, until the family was squeezed into the last patch of shade left.

“With Trent working away and no family nearby, those little outings were how I stayed connected and confident as a new mum,” says Kasi. “But every trip started to revolve around the sun. During a feed I’d drape a muslin over us both and we’d end up hot and uncomfortable. Staying home began to feel easier, and it became incredibly isolating.”

Trent assumed someone had already made a portable shade that clipped onto the pram. When they couldn’t find one anywhere in the world, they decided to build it themselves. Almost 18 months later, ShadyBaby was born, researched, designed and engineered right here in Australia.

“We didn’t want parents chasing shade. We wanted shade to come with them,” says Kasi. “ShadyBaby is for that early stage, when sunscreen isn’t an option and shade is your baby’s best protection. That stage shouldn’t mean staying indoors.”

How ShadyBaby works

UPF50+ sun protection: The lightweight canopy provides UPF50+ protection, using OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified fabric to help keep bub protected from UV while enjoying the outdoors.

Compact yet generous: Folds neatly into a slimline case measuring just 56cm × 12cm × 6.5cm, then opens to create a generous 150cm × 48cm shaded area beside your pram.

Easy to keep clean: The removable canopy can be wiped clean, changed or replaced when needed, because sticky fingers and everyday mess come with the territory.

Sturdy and secure: Designed with a sturdy frame and secure attachment system to keep ShadyBaby firmly in place without adding unnecessary weight.
