Let your imagination run wild in a creative laboratory full of the sights and sounds of Sydney.

Alphabetical Sydney: Creative Lab is an interactive kid’s exhibition now on at Museum of Sydney, celebrating Sydney in all its diversity, from A to Z.

The exhibition has been produced by Sydney Living Museums in collaboration with illustrator Antonia Pesenti and author Hilary Bell, creators of the popular book Alphabetical Sydney.

Sydney is brought to life with a series of creative activities designed to capture your imagination and encourage you to think about the magic of the city, from the icons to the suburbs, from the mundane to the wondrous.

A souvenir Lab Kit, specially created for the exhibition, leads visitors through the show using playful illustrations and rhyming verse. Visitors can investigate the clues in the mini museum, write their own verse in the poetry factory, experience the magic of Sydney at dusk or relax with a book under the canopy of a Moreton Bay fig tree. The sounds of the city in all their intensity and diversity are hidden throughout – deafening cicadas, clanging construction, an elephant’s trumpet from the zoo.

Budding artists and authors and anyone with a sense of fun and a capacity to dream will all enjoy this gorgeous exhibition.

Alphabetical Sydney: Creative Lab is now on and runs until 12 August 2018 at Museum of Sydney, cnr Phillip and Bridge Sts, Sydney.

  • I love Hyde park. I love the beauty of the city surrounding this little oasis. I love watching people pass through and snap up just a few moments of serenity in the caous that is life. I sit and I take in every sound and money. I truely wish I could go there more often with my little family.

  • The rocks, my mum and i had the best scones in a beautiful brick converted house while visiting the markets

  • The Rocks. It’s like stepping back in time as you walk through the cobblestone streets.

  • I love the neighbourhood around my uncles’ house in Putney. It’s so vibrant and alive – my daughter loves the park, I love the food, and my husband loves the architecture. What more could a family want?

  • The Domain. Our visits to Carols in the Domain have created such beautiful memories. In 2017, we stayed in the city overnight & used the next day to ‘explore our own backyard’. We didn’t realise how much we still have yet to explore!

  • My favourite place in Sydney is the Opera House because it is so grand.

  • Shelley beach as its a great beach to take the kids, and relax in the rock pools and gentle waves. A favourite place for our family.

  • Botanic gardens as it is a lovely park to relax in and have a picnic whilst looking at the amazing views.

  • I love being on the harbour – for my wife and I it represents when we first met, and when we take the kids it’s peace!

  • The sydney harbour, you can access it so many sides and ways. It never stays the same.

  • Down in the park at Darling Harbour, its so fun and exciting for the kids and also a good rest for the grown ups with lots of coffee shops and seats. I love to play in the water fountain with the kids!

  • I have no idea what my favourite place in Sydney is as I have not been there.
    Really would love to and go to all the amazing site’s and fun place’s including Sydney’s living museums.
    Also visit family and the Sydney Opera house and the Sydney harbour bridge.

  • Sydney Harbour of course! All of our delicious landmarks, especially picnicking in the Botanical Gardens. My most favourite place would have to be the beautiful Nielsen Park, much quieter, so pretty, great for little barbeques & general play then relaxation!

  • My favourite place in Sydney is The Observatory. Its an amazing place to be at sunset. Its my.favourite place because i feel like im on top of the world looking over Sydney.

  • My favourite place in Sydney is Taronga Park Zoo because I love seeing all the animals.
