If you’ve jumped on the crochet trend and are looking for your next project, these DIY birthing dolls will have you heading to Spotlight quick smart!

A crafty (and super clever) mum has created a whole catalogue of birthing doll crochet patterns to be used as educational toys for kids. The Laura Loves Crochet dolls are incredibly detailed and completely interactive, so kids can learn all about how birth really happens.

Laura’s digital crochet pattern has instructions to make a doll with two openings – vaginal and on the tummy, so the doll can give birth via c-section. The baby is safely tucked into an internal pocket while mumma is pregnant, and then births whichever way you want.

The pattern also includes instructions to make a placenta, umbilical cord and baby. And, by using press studs, bub can breastfeed.

The patterns have become so popular that the finished dolls are being sold and shared across social media, including TikTok.

Laura also creates patterns to make birthing animals, including a sheep, giraffe, pig, cow, owl, chicken, hippo and guinea pig. In fact, Laura says her pig pattern (complete with three piglets) is her best selling pattern.
