Dozens of salad products have been pulled from supermarket shelves amid bacterial contamination concerns.

Coles supermarkets across Australia are now recalling a host of salad products that have been available in QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC and TAS. It follows recalls of salad products from ALDI, Woolworths and Metcash, due to a potential Microbial (STEC) contamination.

  • abdominal cramps
  • nausea and vomiting
  • I don’t buy these types of products, I prefer to mix my own. It’s terrible to think of anyone who has been affected by these products and, if anyone has, I hope they are well on their way to recovery. I have noticed WA hasn’t been included in this. That’s great news for us

  • We often buy spinach leaves to use in all sorts of things, so this is a bit of a worry. I note that the area affected doesn’t seem to be us – ACT – and the pack sizes aren’t the one we usually buy, but still, I’m considering tossing ours out.

  • So glad I’ve stopped buying and eating these pre packaged salads. We mostly stopped as too often they were not fresh even though the dates were days away so odd but we don’t bother with them anymore!

  • Wow! That is a LOT of products that have been recalled. I just hope no one has gotten too sick from this. We actually purchase a fair amount of the listed products but luckily they werent sold in WA. Its sad because stuff like this turns people off buying the “usually” healthy options for fear of getting sick 🙁

  • These are not products and food that we have purchased. We tend to make up our own salads with greens from the fresh food markets. I will indeed share this recall information with family and friends and with my networks. It is very important for the community to be aware of this recall.

  • This is very interesting. I haven’t eaten any of the salad products recently enough to be effected by this, however, I did eat a Sirena chicken pad thai longlife product on Sunday and have had gastro symptoms since. I am not sure if that is what caused it, but it could very well be.

  • After reading Dr Greger, from nutritionfacts.org, a vegan site with medical research, I’ve been very wary of pre-packed salads, especially those that have been cut or shredded etc. Aside from any contamination like this there are natural eco-toxins that build up in cut produce that can outweight the benefit.

  • Great to spread this info, no one wants to get sick from green veggies. I always scoff at prepackaged veggies and salad that state ‘washed and ready to go’, you really can’t rely on it to be healthy for you or any littles in the house. These recalls seem to happen pretty often with bagged salads

  • While it is only a few dollars I would still reach out to the store and request a refund if your unsure and it’s from either Coles or Woolworths message them via fb they tend to respond quickly and can help you. Many of times I have done it and because you need to show them the receipt and product you can just show the store next time you go and either get a refund or exchange (I’d personally opt for the refund just to be safe 😬)

  • Gosh thats definitely a lot of products that would have been sold to so many customers. I hope there are adequate signage and notification to these customers to ensure no one else gets sick from the salads. Scary to think you can easily catch something from a store bought product you would expect to be safe

  • Thank you! It doesn’t appear that the spinach in my fridge is affected – wrong size pack – but since the use by dates are the ones affected, I might throw it out in an abundance of caution. It’s only a few dollars and I’d rather not risk an illness this serious.
