The tech is built into the handle of Evenflo’s newest premium car seats, with a combination of lights, sounds and songs that aim to soothe your baby while you drive. The smart seat can be activated via an app, or using Siri or Google voice commands. There are also buttons on the unit to turn it on manually.

“The built-in lights and sounds right on the car seat’s carry handle eliminate the need for parents to feel like they need to attach or add on after-market soothing toys for their child that could become potential hazards or projectiles in the case of a crash,” said senior manager of safety advocacy and consumer care at Evenflo Sarah Haverstick.

Here’s a more detailed look at the features:

  • Customisable Comfort: Options to mix sounds and lights to create new combinations based on the child’s preferences and developmental stage, creating a truly personalised calming experience. Sounds range from calming white noise for babies, to soothing lullabies, to entertaining beats and beyond.
  • Evidence-Based Lights and Sounds: Drawing on research related to infant sensory development, SensorySoothe has lights and sounds appropriate for various stages of development such as high contrast light effects for newborns and entertaining songs for older babies.
  • Sync with Sound: Create a sensory-coordinated experience with the “Sync with Sound” light effect, which dynamically adjusts the lights to match whatever sound has been selected.
  • Hands-Free Convenience: Voice activated with Siri or Google, allowing for real-time hands-free adjustments from the driver seat in your car.
  • Amber Car Seat Nightlight: Convenient, gentle nightlight setting that provides ambient light and peace of mind during nighttime travel.
  • Long-Lasting Power: 4 AA batteries provide a typical battery life of 15+ hours, allowing users to rely on SensorySoothe for extended trips.

The seats are due to start shipping in mid-February, and will start at US$259 for a car seat and US$649 for a travel system.

  • More baby products and the price is quite reasonable. It doesn’t state how car safe the car seat is though when it comes to a car accident. This would be my first priority before sound etc. Saying that, it would give you peace of mind knowing your child is happy while you’re driving.

  • Sounds like a great idea and I wonder how effective it is.

  • Gosh these baby products have really come a long way since i had my first! I love the idea behind it but also concern and worry about really young babies constantly exposed to these sort of lights. Do they really need it and would it be bad for their eye health

  • The new car seat claims to soothe babies, I wonder if it will work effectively for all babies. Every baby is unique, and what calms one may not work for another. However, the concept of incorporating calming features into a car seat is intriguing and could potentially benefit many parents. A little on the expensive side though.

Do you think it will work? It’s worth noting that while the car seat may provide some level of comfort, it’s crucial to address the underlying reasons for a baby’s crying, such as hunger, discomfort, or tiredness.

  • Such a beautiful new baby seat. I guess a lot of parents have calmed their child down by driving them around, with or without an expensive seat. It will sell though as parents seek a way to calm baby. I hope they work well and imagine many will be interested in reviews.

  • I am not sure what i think of this product, i would be interested to read some review on it before i purchased anything like this. Looks fancy but is it worth the money and will it actually do what it says it will. The fact that it takes batteries could be an issue if it is left in a hot car on a very hot day.

  • Not sure this would work for all children and how long does it last – ie how old is the child before it is no longer a viable proposition for it. I personally found that children were more inconsolable from 18 months to 3 years and it won’t do any good by then as the child will have outgrown it.

  • That’s a great idea. One downside would be that it doesn’t look like it converts as the child grows. I could be wrong, but it doesn’t look like it does forward facing, so would only be good until around 6mths. It’s great that it is all smart tech though and that it doubles as a carrier, so you don’t need to wake bub when you get them out.

  • I am sure there will be many frazzled parents out there looking for reviews on this product. I am assuming it will work for some and not others, depending on why the child is upset. Lets hope it’s the godsend many are searching for.

  • Wow that is impressive! I wish I had that around when my daughter was born. She made car rides a nightmare as a babe.

  • As usual, nothing works for every kid, and I’m betting mine would have been among the kids this didn’t work for!

  • Oh goodness this looks amazing!! I can think of 100 times this would have been a sanity saver. My bub has always loved using a sound and light machine for soothing at nap and bed time and it would be excellent to have calming colours on a car seat. Very clever idea
