I am for. I know this subject can be a tricky one and often it’s a debate that gets quite heated.

I am also happy for people to choose and to make their own opinions on the subject. In reality anything we decide for our children is a personal one at that.

Before I had children I worked in doctors surgeries. I would realise later this helped me come to my decision about vaccinating my children when the need arose.

My son was 9 months old when he contracted German measles. A shy 3 months off from having an injection that would have helped prevent him from getting it. At the time I was furious that my child had been exposed and unknowingly we had exposed others during his infectious period.

I knew the dangers that the infection could bring. I worked in a surgery and had seen firsthand what childhood diseases could do. It is not a sight you want to witness.  And in many cases long term damage is felt.

My Aunty contracted Polio when she was a young girl and the effects are life lasting.

I am grateful that there are new studies being done all the time in regards to Modern Medicine. Studies that can help alleviate initial fears.

I am thankful that my children have NOT suffered adverse reactions thus far.

The herd will protect. My children are a part of the herd.

So I vaccinate. I dislike doing it. I dislike my children crying. I dislike hurting them. But I would  dislike more the dangers that could arise. I treat it like insurance. Sure they might not have contracted anything, but I’d rather there is a buffer in case they do/could.

Tuesday is my youngest child’s turn. His four year old immunisations. I know from the outset he is also going to be the most difficult to take.

I’ll hold his hand,

I’ll brace myself.

I’ll soothe his tears.

I’ll remember that in reality it is 10 mins that could save his life.

  • I made an informed decision not to vaccinate my son,he is now 12 and has always been healthy. There are alternatives to vaccination and the most important is giving breat milk followed by a very healthy diet to keep the immune system healthy Also there are homeopathic remedies for childhood diseases. The Queen has used homeopathy all her life and look how well she is. If you read the reasearch correctly on vaccination there is no proof that it actually works.I was horrified to learn about the ingredients used in vaccinations as well. Why poison your child? When outbreaks of disease occur it is usually the vaccinated that get sick not unvaccinated, but this is always hidden in the so called statistics. I think mothers should be more informed about the cons not the pros,as the cons have been suppressed whilst the pros have been exaggerated.

  • I was pro immunisations and I was immunising my eldest two children until my second child had a severe reaction to his injections which damaged his pancreas and he became lactose intolerant. He is 13 1/2 and still always sick. My youngest child at six is not immunised and won’t be and for my eldest child I stopped immunisations for after the above experience. I am totally against immunisations now. But do believe it’s a personal choice.

  • I agree this is a highly controversial topic. My opinion is very pro vaccinations. Both my kids are up to date on all theirs. I think those that choose feel they are doing right by their child. But thought has to be put to why we have a severe comeback on things like pertussis. I think the pros of vaccinations far outweigh the cons. I choose to put these drugs into my kids in hope that I don’t have to potentially see them suffer these illnesses. Yes they may still get them but likely to be a reduction of the overall illness

  • I am also FOR. My 11 week old picked up whooping cough recently, and then my 2 year old and then my husband, so I have had alot of isolation days at home. Thank goodness for immunisation as all three of them had very mild cases due to the fact they were all up to date with their needles. My 11 week old could have been very sick but as I had her first needles done at the 6 week mark her body had has time to take it in and allowed her body to fight it off. Whooping cough is so contagious that public health even calls you as all cases are reported. We were very happy that she did not get very sick being so little, I would hate to think what may have happened had we not been an immunized family.
