Kmart has confirmed all of its Australian stores are now offering Afterpay in store – just in time for the Christmas rush.

For the past three years Kmart has offered the buy-now-pay-later option on online orders totally between $70 and $2000. But Afterpay is now available in store.

“The news has arrived just in time as restrictions ease and in the lead up to Christmas, signifying the mark of a brighter future for retail,” a spokeswoman for Kmart said.

“Christmas shopping can be incredibly stressful and following on from another troublesome year, the Kmart and Afterpay offering in-store will provide budgeting relief to many families and individuals.”

The retailer confirmed the new service is running in 322 Kmart and K Hub stores across Australia.

  • I get so confused with afterpay and other payments. I can see how useful and helpful it is, but I feel like I’d stress out using it instore.

  • Such a big business that it was only a matter of time.

  • I don’t use Afterpay and never would. I’m unable to work or get any type of pension so I live off my savings so if there’s no money in the bank I just don’t buy.

  • I use after pay just once because of the promotion and save money on eBay.

  • I don’t like that people are encouraged to spend money that they don’t have. I wouldn’t support Afterpay.

  • I do not feel that this is the right thing to offer as I fear it will get people into debt. The fees this service charges is very expensive.

  • Not at all. I simply don’t buy when I can’t pay. And certainly not for Xmas presents ! Who says I need expensive Christmas presents ? When I would be totally broke, we would do with what we have and I would make handmade gifts

    • This year we won’t do Xmas presents at all as we’re going to travel to Europe, which is expensive enough. So happy I don’t have to do the gift hunt !!

  • Not an after pay person but i feel this will just send more people in debt

  • I’ve already done my Christmas shopping and it’s all wrapped up as well.
I like to get in early as I don’t want to be disappointed or have to get something that’s second best if what I want is sold out.

    • Wow, you’re well organised !!

      • Super impressive you have not only done your shopping but it is wrapped too! You have inspired me to get organised.

  • Awesome.. I was buying Kmart gift cards to buy things from Kmart. What I do is -(best is go with on the site do put the items in your basket – don’t check out to pay — it will give you the total amount owed. You then divide this by 4.. best time to do this is around your payday or pension day. This way you will have money in the account and won’t miss a payment
