Kristen Bell has opened up, sharing why the name she picked for her daughter isn’t the best choice, at least not right now. With surging cases of the delta variant of COVID-19, she’s admitting she has some name regret.

Kristen Bell, mother of 2 girls, and of Gossip Girl and Frozen fame, also co-hosts a popular podcast, ‘We are supported by…’ with Monica Padman. On last week’s episode, Padman, started the episode by asking Bell about her 6-year-old daughter Delta.

Padman asked, “Can I ask you a real talk question — how do you feel about Delta’s name being Delta right now?”

“It’s a big, big bummer,” Bell said. “But I’m really hoping that the delta variant won’t be as strong as the original COVID and people will still say corona.”

Thankfully Bell’s daughter doesn’t quite realise the negative connotations associated with ‘Delta’, and is still thrilled when she hears her name come up.

“She’s 6 so she’s impressed every time she sees a Delta Airlines ad or anything,” Bell said. “She’s like ‘Oh my gosh, my name!’ So every time she hears anyone talk about the variant, she’s like ‘My name!’ So she’s still excited about it.”

“Maybe it’s a good thing, because her life’s really easy, because she’s privileged and she’s got a little charisma,” Bell shared. “She’s a little ball of magic and she gets away with everything because of that, so she can either give you puppy dog eyes or make you laugh and because of that her life is too easy.”

Kristen has previously shared that the pandemic took its toll on her marriage to Dax Shepard too. “At the beginning of the pandemic, we were at each other’s throats,” Kristen said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. But like many couples, therapy helped Kristen and Dax through the harder times.

Our very own home-grown Delta Goodrem has joked at her own ‘unfortunate’ name too in a recent Instagram post, “Hi all, it’s me the artist formerly known as Delta ???? Looking for a new name!” she wrote.

Let’s hope this is all over soon, and Delta can go back to being known as the beautiful name that it is, and not related to COVID-19.

Have you ever had baby name regret?

  • Delta is a lovely name

  • Yes not an ideal name now… so hard though. You cant possible know what company or tornado or illness or whatever is going to have a name that turns out is the name of your kid you named years prior… just one of those things.

  • Could be worse – she could be called Karen…haha.

There mustn’t be anything more exciting to do than to think about bad associations with names…

  • Oh lol, too funny. All will be but a memory with covid in a year or 2. Delta is a pretty name

  • A very unfortunate name to have right now, but Delta (covid) will pass and/or another variant replace it, so the association with the name will pass too.

  • As a 40 something named Karen, I feel you! But to be honest I don’t cop much flak from my name and I’m sure it will be the same for young Delta.

    Reply

  • Bless her pure young heart! I’m sure it will pass like every other pandemic

    Reply

  • When I say delta related to covid I’ve never thought about it being someone’s name now I probably will

  • There are so many girls named Delta. I don’t see the problem or is it because she’s famous? Just asking?

    Reply

  • Ugh that’s a shame, it’s a lovely name though.

  • I never would have thought to connect the name. I hope her daughter isn’t having to deal with rudeness because of her name.

    Reply

  • I like the name and it doesn’t connect with me!
