Hello!

Several batches of a popular ointment have been recalled due to microbial contamination.

Lucas’ Papaw Ointment, which is used as a topical ointment for minor skin wounds, dry skin, chafing and often as a lip balm, has been recalled in three different sizes.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration says the recall is due to microbiological contamination that has been found in several batches.

“The microorganisms have been identified as Aspergillus tubingensis, Sordaria humana, Penicillium paneum and Paenibacillus glucanolyticus,” the TGA explained.

“These moulds and bacteria pose minimal risk to the general population. There is a remote risk that individuals who are immunocompromised could become ill if they are exposed to these organisms.”

According to the TGA, the moulds and bacteria pose minimal risks to the general population. “There is a remote risk that individuals who are immunocompromised could become ill if they are exposed to these organisms.”

  • For something that is so trusted in many households this is very scary especially as sometimes these recalls are not heard of by everyone until way after the event when its way too late and half the tube or tub has been used which puts you and your family at risk.
