Aussie actress and author Madeleine West thought she was going through perimenopause, only to discover she’s pregnant with her seventh child.

The 45-year-old former Neighbours star took to social media to reveal her surprise pregnancy, admitting she had no idea she was expecting.

“WHOOPS!” she commented on her pregnancy reveal, which included a gorgeous bump photo.

“Thought it was #perimenopause I thought WRONG!,” she continued.

“It’s not too much Christmas pudding either. And I couldn’t be happier.

“Not too sure about the title ‘Geriatric mum’ but here we are, and I’m winding back a little to grow this little surprise package I’ve dubbed #007. (Baby number 7, couldn’t help myself)

“I don’t have much more to say right now, but I’ve noticed I don’t hear much about older parents. l know you must be out there. Just seems we are invisible.

“So if you’re expecting later than expected, and tackling early #parenthood in your 40s or 50s, I’d LOVE hear your stories. I’d love any tips you care to share. Like how the heck do you get all the #baby paraphernalia together again after you’ve given it all away???? There’s a terrifying new world of contraptions out there and I don’t know where to start!! HELP!!!”

Her honest post was met with hundreds of supportive comments, many from older parents.

The busy mum already has six children (including twins) – Phoenix, Hendrix, Xanthe, Xascha, Xalia and Margaux – with her ex-partner celebrity chef Shannon Bennett.

  • Well that’s quite the surprise. Congratulations though – and being an older parent has as many advantages as disadvantages.

  • Ah yes the geriatric label didn’t sit too well with me either maybe “mature” or something along those lines would be better but honestly, congratulations to her. 7 children is a mammoth effort at any age so
I wish her all the best and I’m sure this baby will bring the whole family immense joy.

  • This is a scary prospect as the risks go up as you get into your 40’s. I hope she has a healthy pregnancy and all is well but for me, I wasn’t comfortable until my husband had a successful vasectomy. I couldn’t imagine going through pregnancy and labour as well as dealing with a newborn at that age

  • Lovely to see a large growing family, they seem to be a dying breed in recent years. I bet this was a big surprise and I wish them all well with the new addition. I am sure there are a lot of older Mums out there nowadays with many waiting to have kids.
