Hello!

A fashion designer mum who loves covering her one-year-old son in temporary tattoos says she’s not going to ease up on the toddler’s fake body art, despite the constant criticism from other parents.

Shameka Morris started putting fake tatts on her son Treylin when he was just six-months-old. The adorable toddler has his own Instagram account which has more than 55,000 followers.

And while most of the comments on the photos are supportive, Shameka’s choice to cover her son in temporary tatts tends to cause a huge stir in the comments. But the Florida-based mum says she’s not going to stop.

“I get a lot of backlash because people are not used to seeing a baby with tattoos. They say I’m raising my son as a ‘gangster’ and ‘thug’,” she said.

The heavily-tattooed mum says even her own family were initially against the fake tattoos. “When I first started tattooing Treylin, my family hated it because they don’t like that I have tattoos.”

But Shameka’s sister Dinera says the family is now supportive.

“When Shameka came up with the idea, I wasn’t down with it, I was totally against it. I did not want her to do that with him. But since I’ve seen where it could take her and Treylin, I didn’t have no issue with it because it turned out to be a positive thing.”

Shameka says she’s no stranger to being ridiculed for her appearance, so she expected it would be the same for her son.

“When I was eight months pregnant I did a maternity shoot with my brothers at a tattoo shop. And I got bullied on social media. All the comments were negative, people were saying my baby was going to be born with a whole bunch of tattoos, that he’s going to have skin poison. It was crazy.”

But Shameka says she shakes off the negativity, because she sees how much joy the body art brings her son.

“When he sees himself dressed in the mirror, he be feeling himself, he be dancing. I really think he enjoys it.”

  • He looks amazing. As long as the tats are safe to use then I cant see any harm in it.

  • I can’t say I’m a fan of this but as long as they’re fake and can be washed off then there’s no harm. It’s not like they’re forever.

  • Well they’re just fake tattoos

  • It looks cute as.
People are so quick to overreact.

  • Personally I don’t like it. Babies are cute without that.

  • As long as he can do what he wants in his own skin when he grows up …

  • No not a fan. As parents we are supposed to guide them, not mold them into mini me’s. It also strikes me a little as child exploitation, but then A LOT of celebrities and other social media influencers would be considered as doing the same. The only reason why her family is now accepting of it is because of what they have gained. And if I remember correctly the procedure for temporary tattoos is to stay still. At that age, its very rare for a child to keep still. Is the child being held down?

  • Like others my concern is for the child’s skin overtime, I would be getting medical advise. The mum said the child likes looking at himself in the mirror, most kids like doing this without the tattoos. I think the mum wants him to be like her covered in tattoos, I’m not a fan.

  • They’re only temporary, however if continually used, could they possibly end up marking his skin permanently? They look kinda cute, but not something I would ever choose to do

  • My only concern would be for any skin reactions with it

  • Not like they are real so dont see any harm. She is covered in tatts

    Reply

  • They arent real. But i hope he doesn’t grow up to think thats what is expected or wants to have

  • If it’s temporary and safe, then it’s her business. But I think it looks ugly and I definitely don’t think she should make permanent decisions like this for a baby.

  • The things people do to get likes on social media. …. Leave the kids out of this!

    • Yes there is this and some other crazy things

    Reply

  • Thank goodness they’re just temporary- they look horrible!

    Reply

  • Hmmmm, no words from me on this one!

  • I don’t really like tattoos on anyone but that’s just me. As long as the tattoos are fake and aren’t irritating his skin and he’s happy I don’t see any harm. I would only be concerned if they were real because he wouldn’t have had a say in it. He certainly rocks the tatts.

  • He looks so cute! As long as it doesn’t irritate his skin I can’t see the harm. Not something I would have done to my kids but then we also didn’t have social media. to promote like now.

  • hmmmm a hard no for me

  • They are temporary, and I assume aren’t toxic or harmful. I see no problem with this. Looks like a happy little kid.
