These Caramel Dumplings are a very sweet and rich dessert perfect for cold winter nights
Ingredients (serves 4)
- 1 1/2 cups self raising flour
- 50 grams butter
- 1/3 cup sugar
- pinch salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/3 cup milk
- 50 grams butter
- 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups water
Method
- To make the dumplings sift the flour and salt into a bowl. Rub in the butter and then add the sugar and mix. Mix the milk with the vanilla and then add to the flour mix. Combine well.
- For the sauce put everything (the 50 grams butter, 1 1/2 cups brown sugar and 1 1/2 cups water) and stir constantly until boiling. Reduce the heat.
- Drop tablespoons of the dumpling mix into the sauce. Cover and simmer for 20 minutes.
- Serve with ice cream and/or cream.
Notes
These Caramel Dumplings are my husbands favourite dessert. If serving to children make sure that the sauce is not too hot.
