This chocolate sandwich spread recipe is super quick, super easy, super tasty and only a little naughty compared with commercial chocolate spreads.

It is the perfect recipe to encourage kids to get involved in the kitchen which is great for so many aspects of their development; think reduced fussy eating, increased independence and confidence, motor skill development, and even maths.

Ingredients (serves 2)

  • 2 Tbsp Tahini (unhulled) (for a nut free spread) or Peanut Butter (100% peanuts)
  • 2 Tbsp Pure Cocoa
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract

Method

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl, spread onto a slice of grainy bread or toast and enjoy!

  • Does this taste bitter? Tahini and cocoa aren’t very sweet flavours.

    • You can always add a spoon of raw honey and some raw vanilla powder if you like it sweeter.

  • Nice one ! With homemade vanilla extract and raw cacao there doesn’t have to be anything naughty in it ????

  • interesting, not sure if my kids would like it though. I do love Nutella but not at all on bread, only by the spoonful or in a dessert of some sort. May be worth a try though.

  • As much as I love chocolate, and I do very much, I’m not a fan of it as a spread. Much prefer it in a block!!!

  • Interesting using peanut butter to make the spread. Can still remember when this was a spread for special reasons as mum considered chocolate spread a treat.

  • The tahini is quite hard to mix. Mine at least! :-) Do you mix it with anything else to make it softer?
