The perfect starter puree for when little taste buds are ready to start combining fruits. This puree also works beautifully combined with rice cereal!

The quickest and easiest way to make purees is to use a baby food maker, but you can always use a saucepan and blender if that’s what you have on hand.

Ingredients (serves 4)

  • 2 Bananas
  • 1 Pear
  • 1 tsp Lemon or Lime Juice

Method

  1. Peel and core the pear, cut into chunks and then steam lightly in a steamer or small saucepan.
  2. Drain the pear and place into the small bowl of a food processor, add the banana and the lemon or lime juice and process until smooth.
  3. You can either decant the mixture into small jars and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. The fact that the pear is cooked and the addition of lemon/lime juice should mean that the banana won't go too dark brown. Or you could freeze small portions (we like to use an ice cube container to freeze and then pop the cubes out and store in a ziplock bag).

  • This also sounds good for my poor “I’ve just got braces and they hurt” teen!
