Ingredients (serves 4)

  • 1 tin springwater sardines
  • 1 tbs coconut oil

Method

  1. Place springwater sardines on air fryer tray so they are evenly spaced and pat them dry.
  2. Drizzle coconut oil over top of sardines.
  3. Place in air fryer on 190°C for 15 minutes or until crispy.
  4. Once sardines have cooled down crunch them up into a storage container.
  5. Sprinkle over the top of your dogs food.

  • It’s a great idea for healthy happy dogs but I would gag with the smell (of course dogs love the smellier the better). I wouldn’t put it in my air fryer so not sure that this is for us or more appropriately not for our dog. I hope those that try this will find it beneficial to their pooch.

  • Our Dog loves everything but we some times buy tins of sardines for her as they help keep her coat nice and shiny. We used to use them to hide tablets in with some of our past pets. I hadn’t thought of drying them out like this but it’s a good idea.

  • I was already adding sardines to my dogs home cooked meals but now adding crunchy airfried sardines just elevated their meal to next level lol. My furbabies LOVED this !!

  • There are some incredibly spoiled dogs if they’re getting air fryer sardines! I’m not sure I have the time or patience but it’s great to see that others do. I’d love to know how many dogs enjoy the sardines and how many don’t? I’m not sure mine would at all!

  • Can dogs eat sardines? I would have thought the tiny little bones were risky. Not that I know, I don’t have a dog and never have (and probably never will). It’s just an instinctive thought. Plus I bet this would stink the house out. I’m sure it’s a good idea but not for me.

  • Sardines in the air fryer, hmmm I am not sure the smell would ever go away after doing this. What ever dog gets to have treats like this must be living like a king or queen. This is quite a fancy dish for a dog, pure luxury but I guess if you have the time and want to do this, then why not. Each to their own.

  • Oh wow – this sounds like an interesting dish for my little doggie.

Would never have thought to use sardines like this with added coconut oil and air-fried – hopefully these don’t fly up into the vents and get stuck and no over powering smell after.

If these work, they would definitely turn out nice and crunchy – can be crumbed on top or throughout her meals.
