Australian soccer superstar Sam Kerr has announced she’s expecting her first baby with partner Kristie Mewis.

The Matildas star revealed the exciting news on Instagram, sharing a series of snaps of the happy parents-to-be, with the caption, “Mewis-Kerr baby coming 2025!”

The 31-year-old has spent the whole year on the sidelines after injuring herself at training for her club team Chelsea in January, which meant she missed Australia’s Olympics campaign.

Sam’s partner Kristie is also a professional soccer player, with the pair revealing their engagement late last year.

  • I have seen so many negative comments on social media in response to Sam and Kristie’s news. Some ignorant people say that they are ‘Shoving it in everyone’s faces’. Seriously! They posted it on their own social media profiles and it was the media who have spread the news. Kristie and Sam are just 2 people in love, who are bringing new life into this world. To all those who say that a baby always needs a a mother and a father, why? Yes it is better if a child has 2 parents, but does a child really care what genitals their parents have? Like having a mother and a father is a guarantee that a child will get all the influences they need. I’ve seen straight relationships where a mother is the furthest from maternal you could imagine and the father not paternal or involved. Yet for some reason, we don’t think that 2 women or 2 men could possibly be great parents. If you think about it, there are no accidental babies born to gay parents, everything is planned, every child is wanted and those families are worthy of respect.

  • Congratulations! I don’t understand the people who can’t just be happy for a new, wanted, loved baby to come into the world.

    • I agree; love is so precious and it is wonderful when people that love each other want to raise a child. Being a parent is such a special journey and it should indeed by embraced and celebrated by everyone. Surely everyone would be moved by the lovely photos and looks of pure joy.

  • They seem like a cute couple, but I don’t know about a same sex couple bringing up a baby. It’s not natural and it just creates more confusion for the child growing up. I know I’m probably a minority here, but it really is a strange world we are living in.

  • This is very exciting news and times ahead for this couple. Pregnancy news is always so welcome and such lovely news to hear. The photos of this couple are very earthy and natural and of course relatable. I really do like the back ground with the graffiti hearts; that is quite lovely.

  • Many congarts to this couple. I’m not familiar with them, but baby news is always exciting and I hope everything goes well with the course of the pregnancy and delivery in due time.
Two women cannot have a baby that shares both of their genes. When you conceive a baby with the help of a sperm donor, only the mother providing the egg will share genes with the child. I always wonder how this impacts the partner who doesn’t share the genes
