Hello!

How was your Mothers Day? Did it meet your expectations? I’m seriously constantly let down because of my ridiculously high expectations. I have a fantasy in my head of how the day will plan out, maybe created by watching too many tv commercials. You know the ones, with the fluffy slippers and the breakfast in bed, the huge loving cuddles, the earrings and chocolates and home made cards? Yeah I actually thought that’s what I was getting, how my day would go. Ha, fool me!

How many fights were there between the three kids today I can’t count. An entire day (without hubby) with the kids screaming at each other. Finally I yelled at them ‘it’s mothers day, you’re meant to just be nice for this one day’! Well that worked for about 15 minutes!

They really weren’t that bad, I think I just had unrealistic expectations. I really thought that I could stay in bed all day and read my new mothers day book. But of course ignoring my children just makes them crazier.
I really got sucked in this year. Next year I will lower my expectations, ignore what society and media portray as what Mothers Day should look like and just enjoy the day like any other with my gorgeous family and take what the day brings with gratitude.

  • My Mum always said all she wanted was to see the whole family at the same time – quality time was more important to her than any gift would ever be. She didn’t want flowers

  • I don’t have expectations, and as a result had a lovely day – the $5 gifts from the school stall (which I paid for) were much less tacky than I expected!

  • The TV ads certainly do create unrealistic expectations, like really who can afford diamond earrings, but I had a lovely Mother’s Day. I got flowers picked from the garden & a tacky homemade gift. This year I got a bejewelled gold painted ice-cream stick jewellery box, which I just adore & cherish because it’s made with love & a pink cooking spatula as well as soaps from the school stall. The kids faces of anticipation make it even more special

  • Mothers Day is not much different to any other ay – provided you receive some thanks for your efforts as mum, that’s about as good as it gets for most. I got a belated “Happy Mothers Day!” from my 9 year old and the rest of the day was pretty much like any other – except… I also got invited to jump on the trampoline with her – that was her special treat for me – at least she tried!
