Hello!

We are headed to Europe early next year and it will be our last big holiday before we have babies of our own. As someone who grew up travelling I wanted to know how hard is it to travel with kids? I am also interested in taking a long trip around America with my kids, has anyone done home schooling before? What is involved and is it something that is possible. I know I am thinking a long way in advance but I am a planner and I cannot survive unless I have at least a running 5 yr plan.

  • Travelling with kids is educational and fun; best done in the primary school years. In high school years it can be difficult; due to the age and schools are getting tough on children being away from school for travel. Home schooling is a good option when travelling; I have been on the giving and receiving end of home schooling; just make sure it is structured and the kids stick to it and it will work well. As you sound super organised it should work out for you; as you know when travelling; things often go pear shaped; so have some contingency plans! Good Luck! :)

  • Its possible, its a mammoth task though. A lot of private schools have home schooling options research them. Alternatively you could do the trips over school holidays 6-8 weeks (or more if you let them skip the last week or two) at the end/beginning of the year. Plus three 2-3 week holidays throughout the year

  • I know of people who took a long trip around Australia and were able to do home schooling via some sort of distance education arrangement with their school.
