When it feels like most of Australia, especially Melbourne, has been in lockdown forever and with no real end in sight, parents will resort to whatever is needed to make life easier. And when it’s a Kmart toy costing only $5, well it’s a total no brainer.

Bec Judd has shared on her Instagram that her kids are being kept busy for hours with a simple toy, and it only set her back $5. The mother of 4, and wife to AFL legend, Chris Judd, has her hands full during long days of lockdown like many Australians, and has been looking for ways to keep her kids busy.

What’s the magical toy that has kept her twins happily busy for hours? The $5 Sparkle Gem Art set that you can pick up from Kmart.

Kmart stocks a range of different colourful designs. The canvas is adhesive, so kids will use the wand to pick up gems and stick them to the canvas, creating an art piece.

Bec Judd, 38, shared with her 809,000 followers on Instagram how the kids were quietly working on their Sparkle Gem Kits for hours.

And it’s not just for kids, Kmart also makes $5 sets for adults too.

They have various designs which adults and kids can entertain themselves with. Some are big enough that the whole family can join in together and create a Sparkle Gem masterpiece.

These kits have been a fun staple for families all over Australia for a while now, because they keep the kids busy for hours and are fun for all ages, even adults. The only downside is that you’ll probably find little beads all over your house for the rest of lockdown, so try and get the kids to keep it all one place if possible.

Kmart isn’t the only stockist of the Sparkle Gem Art, craft store Kaiser has smaller kits that are easier for small kids to manage. They are currently $5.59.

  • Bought the mermaid style for my 6 year old.
It’s good quality and she loves it.
However it is very tedious and she only last 10-15 minutes so it was a slow moving project.
    Wonderful once finished

  • What a great idea! I got my children those foam dolls (fantasy set) and a scrapbook. I told them they can make one fairy/elf a day but they must draw a scene for their doll to live/play in. We then stuck their creations to their pictures. It kept them happy, quiet and using their imaginations for days

  • I’d love to buy some of the adult ones for the local aged residents if I’m allowed to. I try to visit them once a week when possible. Otherwise they’re just sitting in front of the television because they can’t do much any more.
