If you’re heralding in the new year with a bundle of joy, you’re no doubt madly researching baby names. Lucky for you baby naming experts have put their heads together to come up with a list of names they’re certain will shoot up the popularity ranks in 2023.

Among the 23 baby names are some unique monikers, some classic that are making a comeback and plenty that are influenced by pop culture and celebrities. The editors of Nameberry were set with a task – secretly nominate a few baby names they thought would become popular next year. And their choices make for a fabulous list of unique baby names.

At the top of the list is Alden – for both boys and girls, followed by Archie. The Nameberry team think that Harry and Meghan’s first-born’s name is set to skyrocket in 2023.

Billie also made an appearance on the list, with boyish nicknames for girls becoming increasingly popular (think Charlie and Frankie). Next up is Breland, a unisex name made popular by US singer-songwriter Daniel Gerard Breland. Celeste also made the list, a classic that’s never slipped out of the top 1000 baby names.

The name of Scarlett Johansson’s son, Cosmo, also made the list, as did Elio which is about to be propelled into popularity thanks to Disney Pixar. It also happens to be the name of the divine Em Rusciano’s son.

The name Everest is predicted to take over from the popular Everett, while Halston has been given the nod as the next Hailey for girls.

Here’s a blast from the past – Jolene is seeing a resurgence in popularity, as is Linus (who you’d remember from Peanuts!). The ever-beautiful Louise is predicted to be on the comeback trail, while the far more divisive Luxury is also on the up-and-up.

The gorgeous Marigold also makes the list, as does Noah – but for girls. Omri, Romi and Rose are likely to become the names of choice for many 2023 babies, as are Sayer, Sunday and Tru (thank you Kardashians!). Finally Wilde and Yuna round off the list.

  • I must be very old-fashioned as I still like the olden day type of names. And Linus brings to mind a computer geek or the Peanuts character.
