Make this beautiful butterfly artwork to hang on your child’s bedroom wall.

Material

  • 1 picture box photo frame
  • 2 butterfly cards
  • small Stanley knife
  • scissors
  • glue or sticky tape

Method

  1. Cut around half of a butterfly wing and fold back.
  2. Repeat the above on another butterfly, this time on the opposite side of the wing.
  3. If you like you can cut around both wings on another, but make sure you leave the middle (body) of the butterfly in-tact. Fold back wings.
  4. Place the same image of the butterfly behind your cut out. (this is what the second card is for).
  5. You can even cut out a butterfly and randomly place it where you like. Be imaginative and creative, it's all up to you.
  6. Take the back off your picture box frame and insert the card. Replace the backing and you are ready to hang.

Notes

I purchased both the picture box frame and the cards (I did make sure there was no writing on the front of the card though) from Hot Dollar (a discount store) the cards were only a dollar and the frame was $5.

I have seen these prints online from any where from $40 to $60, so this little activity was a steal at $7 and I feel looks pretty cute. Good luck and have fun anyone who is going to give it a try.

  • This looks really lovely. Simple concept but it would take skill to do all the cutting etc! Gorgeous.

    • Hi THREELOS,

Trust me if you can trace around a picture etc with a pencil you can master this, it’s just that you use a small cutter instead of a pencil. I used hubbies cutter on this project but the other day whilst visiting the Reject Shop they actually had some cutters on a clearance table so I grabbed one, they are called “HOBBY CRAFT CUTTER” and was $3.00 down to $1.50, the metal piece is 11cm long with a 2cm long blade. This is not a project to be doing whilst entertaining children, but I am sure will put a smile on the face of that someone special as a lovely surprise.
