Hello!

In an adorable coincidence, two families welcomed babies at the same hospital, on the same day, and named them after one of the world’s most the iconic country duos – Johnny Cash and June Carter.

The two Alabama families welcomed their babies on April 10, and heard about the incredible coincidence through the hospital grapevine. Once each family realised their child had been named after the Grammy-winning singer-songwriters, they had to meet.

“I was very shocked. I was so excited when I found out,” Sophie Clark, mum of baby June, told Good Morning America.

“I thought it was a bizarre coincidence,” explained Nicole Davis, who gave birth to baby Johnny. “And I was like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me.’ When I realised they named her June Carter and we named our baby Johnny Cash, and that [they were born the same day], it got a little bit more intensified at that point.”

Nicole and her husband Johnny Lee Davis Jr are parents to 12, with their blended family welcoming Johnny Cash Davis as the newest member. The couple had tossed up a few different names for their baby, and eventually chose Johnny Cash Davis, who they call Cash.

“We told our co-workers and talked about it with friends and family and everybody agreed Cash is a good name, like that’s a great boy name,” Nicole said. “He could be a baseball player, he could be an astronaut, like Cash could do whatever he wants. And so we really liked it from the second we landed on it.”

Sophie said it was her sister who suggested she and husband Carter Clark name their baby June, with Sophie then throwing in the idea of using her husband’s first name as their daughter’s middle name.

“I just started calling her June Carter and everybody loved it. Our families loved it and it just kind of fell into place,” the first-time mum said.

Baby June was born first, at 2.30am, followed by Johnny at 9.50pm. The couple only learned of the coincidence when a family member who had been visiting the Clarks, bumped into baby Johnny’s dad in the hospital elevator and struck up a conversation.

“So he called my husband right after that and told him, and I was like, ‘We have to find this baby because that’s too big of a coincidence,'” Sophie said.

The families say they now plan to stay in touch.
