Oh Barbie, you’ve done it again! Mattel has released a David Bowie-inspired Barbie to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the iconic artist’s album Hunky Dory. And it’s magnificent.
It’s the second time Mattel has created a David Bowie Barbie, with the previous version released in 2019 to mark the 50th anniversary of Space Oddity. The new doll celebrates Bowie’s Life On Mars video, with a stunning powder-blue suit and incredible details.
Designer Linda Kyaw-Merschon and her team re-created the look as a nod to the style and music icon.
“It’s a tribute to Bowie – his outfit, his makeup, his features – to emulate his essence and make sure it looked like Barbie, but as Bowie,” Linda said.
Bowie Barbie wears a powder-blue suit, foil-printed, pin-stripe shirt, tie and platform shoes, and boasts a 70s-inspired hairstyle and bold blue eyeshadow.
It’s the latest in Mattel’s Creations series, which included Barbie’s first transgender doll and a Vera Wang tribute doll.
The David Bowie Barbie doll is only available at Mattel Creations for $US50.
