When is Black Friday 2024?

This year Black Friday is Friday, 29 November, 2024.

What is Black Friday?

Black Friday is a huge retail event across the globe, and it marks the start of the Christmas retail period. It actually originated in the US, as a sale that followed Thanksgiving.

So, why is it called Black Friday? It’s thought that the name came from the large numbers of people who flock to the shops for the sales and cause huge disruptions. Others believe it’s because it marks when retailers in the US begin to head from the red into the black and turn a profit.

While it started in America, Australian have embraced Black Friday in recent years – and we’re not at at all mad about it!

  • There were definitely some fabulous finds over the Black Friday period!

  • I picked up some amazing deals on dresses and shirts. I had to stop myself from going overboard.

  • My two sister, Mum and I made plans to go to our closest bigger shopping center on the 29th.. we made the plans months ago. We got to the shopping centre only to realise it was black Friday sale day! The shops were full and it was like swimming salmon swimming upstream trying to get through.

  • Oh I’m cranky. I picked something I really wanted up at the presales at Kmart – online – and they’ve just cancelled the sale saying they ran out of stock. They shouldn’t be allowed to do that, especially if it’s still available in store.

  • We went to the shops yesterday just to have a look and didn’t end up buying anything. I personally prefer the boxing day sales I think.

  • Thanks for sharing ! It’s certainly a good time to go shopping when you are in need of things. We’ve just booked a trip to the Netherlands, Northern ireland, Scotland and Switzerland with airplian tickets, car hire and hire of cattages our wallets thinned quite severly. I just shopped for gifts for teacher, inclusion teacher, 3 teacher aides, 3 support workers and one therapist who’s leaving and I’m done and said to myself no more !

    • As much as I’ve loved the sales I’ll take your holiday plans any day, have a fabulous time!!

  • Omg I went nuts yesterday and bought so many things but they are things I need and will use so I was glad I got them on sale rather than paying fall price. I scored some fabulous bargains. So glad I held out till the sales, I have saved so much.

  • I also took the opportunity to grab a few extra goodies for this year’s Dignity Bag for Share the Dignity. I made a Mum and Bub bag and really tried to fill it with some self care indulgent items. I was able to get a lovely OGX hair mask, an 18 shade eye shadow palette, some whipped body butter, and a cute riff raff in black Friday sales amongst the other pieces I collected throughout the year. Donations close on the 1st, just in case anyone else has their bag ready to go!

  • I have been a wild gal this year. I absolutely took advantage of the Adore Beauty FB sale, I have a divine Kiehl’s pack coming, L’Occitane 20% off was too good to pass up, Tarte Cosmetics for myself and my secret Santa, Huda Beauty cyber craze was excellent, and I may have purchased 3 outfits from Billy J. In my defence, my birthday is the second week of December so I double dip this time of year. Hope everyone else has found some wonderful treats!
