About the Author

Jackie Case is a globally recognised, award-winning, fine artist, based in Melbourne. Through The Rebecca Hossack Gallery, she has exhibited all over the world including New York, London, Paris, Hong Kong, Singapore, Canada, and across her home country of Australia.

Originally, studying for a B.A Graphic Design/Advertising (RMIT)) Jackie was initially reluctant to show her drawing skills and would frequently ask her friends to hold her portfolio on the tram. However, after several years of travelling through Europe, and visiting as many galleries and museums she could afford, Case began drawings in earnest and finally had her first small solo exhibition downstairs at The Picture Box in Collingwood. Buoyed by this success, Case honed her craft by exhibiting in local cafés until she felt ready in 2012 to apply for The Affordable Art Fair Melbourne as an unrepresented artist.

Accepted to exhibit, this was an enormous success with her super-fine, detailed, quirky pencil drawings flying off the wall (selling over 85 pieces), whilst simultaneously catching the eye of The Rebecca Hossack Gallery London/New York. A partnership that has now endured for over twelve years.

Passionate about the importance of creativity, Jackie shares her struggles and how she overcame these hardships through her writing, drawings, and workshops. ‘With a Little Sprinkle of Courage’ was written/illustrated as a guide to help those needing strength through adversity. “My ambition was to create a timeless tale, almost like a fable, a reminder of how at our lowest, we are all capable of creating our own courage… just when we need it most.”

Jackie lives with her beautiful family and rescue dog, who all love her, despite her unnatural need to sing karaoke whenever she pleases. www.jackiecase.com

  • Through stories of bravery, gentle guidance they receive,
    Challenges embraced, fears they believe.
    Encouraging, supporting, letting them try,
Building courage together, reaching for the sky.

  • Having a little stepson who struggles with being brave, I would love a book like this to read with him to help him understand and find courage in moments that are scary or challenging. To be able to use it as a reference also in those times.

  • I lead by example and do things outside my comfort zone or challenge myself to show them they can do anything they put their mind to, building courage in themselves and their abilities.

  • I taught my son that it was OK to suffer failures in his pursuits.

  • By being inspiring and let the kids make there own choices

  • Giving them situations where I ensure they are safe but can explore going out tof their comfort zone. And praising them for success!

  • My 5yr old niece is sensitive and shy and courage is what we’re working with her on building – this book may prove invaluable for her and her younger siblings

  • A beautiful verbal reminder every morning of how strong, kind and beautiful they are, since the minute they were conceived!!

  • Encourage your children to try new things, acknowledge their efforts, and teach them problem-solving. Foster a safe environment where mistakes are seen as learning opportunities. Share stories of bravery, and lead by example, demonstrating resilience in challenges. Gradually pushing comfort zones helps build their courage over time.

  • Who doesnt love a new book, especially one with such a beautiful story line. Reading books to my children makes my day.

  • I encourage them to recognise where their comfort zone ends, and then gently expand it bit by bit. For example, asking another adult a subject-specific question that they might have expertise on – I’ll encourage them to ask that adult and not me.

  • I encourage my kids to make mistakes, even though seeing them fall, hurts my heart. And I’m always there on the sidelines to cheer them along! “The first step is the hardest in every journey of dreams”.

  • I make my children believe in themselves by helping them set goals and reaching them. They may have to work for a while to achieve them and let them know often there are many steps into believing in themselves and it doesn’t happen over night.

  • I always model active listening – validating what my daughter says, nodding and giving positive facial expressions, and telling her how smart, strong and brave she is!

  • I try to stand back and let them do things for themselves, encouraging them to be daring and adventurous

  • By encouraging them to always have a go, without fear of failing, and ensuring that I’m always there to support them, no matter the outcome.

  • By showing my little ones and displaying courage myself as much as it is hard to do.

  • I build courage in my children by encouraging them to try their best no matter if they are perfect or not. Trying is my only request in my children therefore they can be fearless because they are free from judgement.

  • Positive reinforcement. Allow my children to let their emotions out and not hide how they’re feeling.

  • Keep telling them they are wonderful and capable of anything
