Author bio:

Susannah Chambers is a publisher of children’s books at Allen & Unwin. She lives in Melbourne, but regularly dreams of the beach.

Mark Jackson is an illustrator based in Melbourne. He has co-illustrated several books with his wife, Heather Potter, and their work has been featured in several exhibitions. His books, including The Snow Wombat (written by Susannah Chambers), Waves (written by Donna Rawlins and co-illustrated by Heather Potter), Platypus (written by Sue Whiting), Bilby Secrets (written by Edel Wignell) and Stuck! (written by Charlotte Calder) have been shortlisted for multiple awards, including the Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Awards and the Children’s Book Council of Australia Awards.

  • Wombat stew is a great Aussie children’s book, it features a lot of our iconic natives and always reminds me of a hot Aussie day in primary school. Simpler times.

  • The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I grew up reading this book and now have passed it onto my little ones to enjoy the beauty as well.

  • Wombat Stew! I Teach Preschool and the children love to sing along with this one every time. We learn all about Australian Animals and the bush and get a bit creative making our own Wombat Stew. So much sensory fun and ideas come from this story that is so loved ????


  • We love the Pig the Pug series! He is naughty and funny and we adults find it as amusing as our children! I hope he writes some more quickly!

  • my favourtie childrens book would be possum magic, by mem fox, my neices and newphews have loved it and my son Ricky have just got it for a christmas pressie recently and we read it daily


  • I love reading books by Morris Gleitzman, a uniquely Australian perspective and range of Children’s books. When my kids were younger we thoroughly enjoyed Toad Rage


  • Winnie the Pooh books were my favourite and I now love to read those to my kids to pass on that tradition.
    We read every night and would love this book!
