Author bio:

Susannah Chambers is a publisher of children’s books at Allen & Unwin. She lives in Melbourne, but regularly dreams of the beach.

Mark Jackson is an illustrator based in Melbourne. He has co-illustrated several books with his wife, Heather Potter, and their work has been featured in several exhibitions. His books, including The Snow Wombat (written by Susannah Chambers), Waves (written by Donna Rawlins and co-illustrated by Heather Potter), Platypus (written by Sue Whiting), Bilby Secrets (written by Edel Wignell) and Stuck! (written by Charlotte Calder) have been shortlisted for multiple awards, including the Speech Pathology Australia Book of the Year Awards and the Children’s Book Council of Australia Awards.

  • The Gumnut fairies were my favourite books and so much fun to read


  • The Flying Optometrist love how it’s fun and bright this book is plus how it brings to light a little known part of remote Australian life


  • I love the cultural diversity of “I’m Australian too” but I can’t go past “possum magic” this book I remember being read in primary school! It teaches children about Australia but also that you can’t hide from everything that scares you!


  • There was an old woman who swallowed a mozzie. So much fun to read with my daughter. She’s gotta be Aussie!


  • I loved the Gumnut Babies, as I love Australian based books for our children.


  • I love reading the ‘If you’re happy and you know it! Aussie Edition’ book to my son! We love doing the actions along to the book (which even has a cd to listen and dance too). Always lots of laughter and fun!


  • Where is the green sheep as been a favourite in our house for many years. First with my 7 year old twins and now with my 3 year old.


  • Possum magic.
    We love Mem fox.
    There is some amazing other Australian books tho.
    Can not wait to read this to my kiddlings tho.


  • Possum Magic who doesn’t love those delicious foods.


  • Snugglepot & Cuddlepie because it is completely Australian.


  • My favourite Australian children’s book is “Diary of a Wombat” by Jackie French because it’s a great story with hilarious pictures and my little daughter loved it.


  • Possum in the House. Love the rhythm of it and can still recite parts from my childhood!


  • Possum Magic, because I love the artwork and storyline. Also it’s possums plus magic what’s not to love!


  • Diary of a Christmas wombat. Because wombats are my favourite animal I have a tattoo of one and my birthday is Christmas Day.


  • KOALA LOU by Mem Fox is great favourite. A beautifully written tale of being happy with your best effort .. & love of course.
