Hello!

An influencer has revealed the unique name of her newborn son, who was born eight months after the death of her partner.

Kelly Kay, 30, took to social media to share the news that she’d given birth to her first child – a baby boy. He arrived eight months after Kelly’s partner, American footballer Spencer Webb, 22, died in a cliff diving accident.

Kelly decided to honour his legacy, by naming their son Spider Webb – a tribute to Spencer’s on-field nickname ‘Spider’.

But not everyone was in favour of the touching tribute, with some ridiculing the name:

“She did not name that kid Spider Webb omg poor kid,” one person commented.

“The kid’s name is Spider Webb? Won’t be teased at all?”

“I mean it’s great that you wanted to name him after his dad, but why not name him Spencer JR and nickname him Spider?”

“OMG I am sorry for your loss but Spider!!! That poor child will be ridiculed his whole life!! Name him after his father that is more of a tribute than Spider!!”

Kelly announced she was pregnant in August 2022, just a month after Spencer’s tragic death.

The Oregon Ducks footballer hit his head at a spot popular for cliff diving.

“We created an angel before heaven gained one,” she wrote on her social media pregnancy announcement. “All you ever wanted was to be a father…I know you’ll be the best one from up above.

“Can’t believe I have to do it without you but knowing I’ll have a piece of you keeps me going. I can’t wait to meet the person that’s half you, half me. I love you forever, both of you.”

Kelly has since shared her pregnancy journey with her 744,000 Instagram followers.

  • That would be bring so many mixed feelings.

  • Lovely tribute to his father and I hope this young one doesn’t get bullied for it though.

  • She named her baby in honour of her late partner. I’ve heard a lot of worse names for children.

  • Could have just Nick named him that too

  • Gorgeous. People just need to let people name their kids whatever they want. Unless it’s offensive.
    wishing her all the best

  • She named her baby by the nickname of her belated and beloved husband, who are we to judge ? Wishing her tons of blessings

  • This is such a sad situation. To lose your partner whilst your pregnant, is just heartbreaking. She is doing everything she can to hold onto her partner’s memory and to keep her child connected to him. It’s quite beautiful.

    • Yes, very sad indeed to lose your partner during your pregnancy, bless her !

  • Honestly she’s recently lost her partner and the baby is going to grow up without his dad, people should keep their nasty comments to themselves. Just because you don’t agree with something doesn’t mean you need to comment..

  • Gosh it makes your heart swell doesn’t it. We never know our journey. Simply be present and make the moments count.

  • It is a lovely tribute to the father. It will raise alot of eyebrows from everyone around him but if he’s confident and proud about it and able to explain the reason to others I think people will agree it is beautiful.

  • Another selfish fool destined to give the child a hard time in life. Go change your own name to something just as dumb . And to think I thought mad cow was wiped out but here it is raised its ugly head again

  • This is a personal choice I just hope the kid doesn’t get bullied at school

    Reply

  • The meaning behind it is beautiful and i am sure her son will carry on his legacy beautifully !

  • Congrats to her. The name means a lot to herself so good for her

  • Hmm spider might not have been so bad with any other surname. It is a little silly…

  • Do parents forget that their child has to live their entire lives with that name? While ‘Spider’ may be cool until he is in Grade 2, perhaps it would’ve been better as a nickname.

  • As has been said before, that name is still ridiculous. Spencer would have been lovely. However, given that she is an influencer and is wont to ridiculous acts, she probably would have named the child something silly anyway.

  • Maybe nick name him Spider in honour of his dad but not as a name.
