Kids’ birthday cakes that are easy and fabulous are going to be your best friend every time a birthday comes around!

Your kid’s birthday is nearly here and you need to organise a ton of things: buy the present, send out invitations and find the perfect venue for your kid’s birthday bash.

Finding an awesome kids’ birthday cake is no less important – gathering around the birthday cake is a highlight of every party. If you make a visually stunning and unique cake, be sure that it will be talked about for days!

It may cross your mind that slaving away and making a homemade cake just isn’t worth it. Never fear! These kids’ birthday cake ideas and recipes are not as complicated as they may seem. They look amazing and they can be easily made by beginners and they don’t require a full day spent in the kitchen.

Here are five popular homemade kids’ birthday cakes that will make a party to remember!

Pick a cake that will suit the party theme, and amaze your birthday boy or girl and their friends!

Rainbow cake

Here’s something that will surely fascinate all party guests – it’s a kids birthday cake that’s bursting with colour! If you believe that rainbow cake is hard to make, you’re mistaken – it’s really simple! Not only that it will entice both kids and adults by its looks but it tastes great, too. Probably the greatest thing about it is that you can choose any colour you like. The beauty of this cake is in its layers – soft, delicious and fluffy “sponges” of different colours, most often enriched with cream cheese icing.

Hedgehog cake

Animal-themed birthday cakes are, without a doubt, the cutest and one of the most popular kids birthday cakes. Teddy bear design has been the most common one, but we decided to place a hedgehog cake on our list – because it’s unique, equally gorgeous and usually made from the same ingredients (lots and lots of chocolate). The mix of cocoa, butter, eggs and vanilla makes a delicious cake, rich in taste. The trick is in making firm and precise spines, but this cake won’t deform – it can survive in the fridge for several days.

Princess castle cake

Princess castle cake, although extremely beautiful, is not something most mums will decide on if they are the ones who need to make it. It’s true that making this cake requires certain skills, creativity and a bit more time spent in the kitchen. However, it’s not that difficult – it still falls into “light” category. In any case, making this cake will surely amuse you and you’ll get the chance to test your culinary skills. However, the reward is huge – your girl and her friends will be delighted! It’s a kids birthday cake everyone will remember! And if this seems too tricky, try a Dolly Varden cake instead.

Rocketship cake

Here is a cool kids birthday cake idea if you have a birthday boy. Same as the castle cake, it looks demanding, but it’s not. This rocketship will certainly thrill the birthday boy and his guests! When you see the expression on their faces, you’ll realise that making this cake was worth the effort! One great thing about it – it doesn’t contain allergens, so it’s suitable for everyone.

Kit Kat Cake

Here’s another colourful kids birthday cake! Kids simply adore cakes decorated with lollies. One of the most popular lolly cakes is Kit Kat cake: vanilla flavoured interior surrounded with Kit Kat bars and M&M’s poured over the top. If you think other lollies will be more suitable, feel free to swap – we recommend chocolate malt balls as an equally tasty alternative! There’s one downside though – this buttery, vanilla and chocolate cake is almost too beautiful to eat!

Kids birthday cakes are always only a few steps away! Especially if you keep a stock of cake decorating products in your pantry.  We love all the Queen products you’ll find at the supermarket.

  • My Son’s birthday is coming up and I am so glad to get some ideas from this article. My biggest challenge is always on the decorating part of the cake. The cake base whether it’s vanilla or chocolate flavour can just be looked online. I guess the easiest cake decor would be the kitkat one plus it’s super cute!
